Windows 7 bug? Minimizing Vegas 8.0c

CLWaldroff wrote on 11/21/2009, 3:35 PM
After installing windows 7, now everytime I minimize Vegas to do something else, I can't restore the Vegas window anymore. I can run another Vegas project and then I can see both "window previews" but when I go to select the first one it won't do anything. I have to select "close window" and then re-start Vegas.

Any thoughts?

Try using "task manager" to "switch" to the Vegas 8.0c you want to maximize. I had this same problem under Vista 64 .. Never found a solution. Sony didn't think it was any sort of bug in Vegas, but I don't have the same problem with 9.0 Vegas under Vista 64 or Win 7 64.

if you have auto-save turned on or auto-save within excalibur turned on, try hitting the save button before leaving vegas to do something else...i've been having issues with the auto-save activating every time i migrate away from vegas and in some instances if the program i am migrating to comes up before the auto save has had time to finish, the window seems to hang. this is a pain when trying to look at photographs in my photo program (ACDSee Pro) to do minor editing for use in vegas. it only seems to happen when i have a lot of material on my timeline in vegas (needs more time to do a save). my solution is the same you came up with...shut 'er down and re-open the project. what's interesting is that windows that are on my secondary monitor will come back up...only the primary monitor seems to hang.

Just a guess, not having anything similar, but then I skipped 8 & went 7 -> 9...

When you minimize Vegas the only thing out of the ordinary is you can set Vegas to release any active media files. Otherwise a minimized app should continue to function just the same, whether you've minimized it or not.

Also, you've got basic graphics card driver stuff going on to redraw the Window when you want to restore it. When it comes to video display Win7 does not always treat additional monitors equally -- you can see complaints/work-a-rounds at the Green Button site for example with folks wanting to run 7's MC on other than the primary monitor.

Hi,

No thoughts but can confirm that I sometimes see exact same behaviour with my same setup as yours! However, furiously clicking on the minimized window (on the taskbar) brings usually the Vegas wionds back...

It seems that VP9 does not suffer from this behaviour, but VP9.0c still suffers from may other (new) anomalies :(

I have 8c and 9c on my Win 7, no problems at all, very smooth and fast.
