Testing VP9.0b (64 bit) on WIN 7 Ultimate DTM version, and it works great! Unnofficially - obviously ;)
VP9.0b is probably not officially supported on Win 7 for a while... But hopefully soon after the WIN 7 starts to ship. After all, WIN7 is basically very much Vista, so there should not be too much testing required...
I'm running Windows 7 Pro 64 bit Final Release. I've had no issues save for not being able to print PDF's from Quicken Home & Small Business 2008. Not sure why even though CutePDF is Windows 7 certified. Has to be something about Quicken - even when running in compatibility mode.
So far - no other issues with my other apps whatsoever.

question on Win7: does it come with the 32 & 64bit version on the same disc? The MS windows page said both (32+64) were available for all editions but made no mention of different 32/64 bit editions for you to buy.
I guess the right version(s) of 7 will have a downloadable XP Virtual machine or something to that effect, so shouldn't be a problem of switching over for much of any reason.
I looked @ the specs for using the XP thing with 7. It looks like virtual PC with a copy of XP installed, but it IS free. You need a 2ghz CPU & 2gb memory to run it, so it must be 100% emulating. So XP programs could very well run 1/2 as good as they do currently.
