Windows 7 weirdness...no .ac3?

In 8.0c running Win 7 RC, I select Dolby Digital ac3 Pro (Stereo DVD template) and about 60% through the render I get an error stating:
An error occured while creating the media file... the item was not found.
Item was not found??? huh???
Any thoughts?

EDIT: I just tried to render to MPG2 (DVDA template) and I immediately get File not found. Check the file name and try again
What the hell is going on?....what is it trying to open??

Probably there is a reason why Microsoft does not sell Win7 now, but just let it out for free for testing. :-)

A Release Candidate should not be considered for any serious work.
One should not forget, that not only Win7 must work to ensure a smooth workday - also all the applications, their environments, plugins, drivers etc etc must be adjusted to work on the new platform first.

When they send out Win7 SP1 it might be time to change away from good ole XP SP3 - at least so tells us 25 years of history all the way back from Windows 1.0x.
Remember the first great update on diskette that made it run for more that 20 minutes between each booting?

Win7 seems to run pretty well - however - I have it on an isolated machine far away from our working machines - and use it for conversion and test of our business system (written in Delphi/Pascal) - and btw. Win7 seems to work surprisingly well here also.

Not sure what's happening. I just tried ac3 and mpeg II and they both worked without a hitch in V8c and W7 RC.

No problems here with MTS files from the SR11 (which are AC3 5.1 surround)

Sorry it took so long to get back-
The problem evidently has nothing to do with V8 (as you probably were already aware).
I later noticed that V8 was looking for the file I wanted it to render.
For some reason after a few minutes on the timeline the data disappeared....didn't show "media offline" but nothing there on playback.
I went to the files where they were stored (Seagate external drive) and there was nothing showing (in V8 or Windows 7 explorer).
After a restart they were back but disappeared again after working in V8 for a little while.
The workaround was to move them to another drive but do you have any idea what could be happening? The Seagate is about 2 years old fwiw.

Your HD may be going 'To Sleep'.

Many HD's will fall asleep when they are ON but not being used for a while.
You may need to make sure that your HD is staying 'Awake' while you edit.

Question:
Is there any other Media that is being called for from this HD or is this the first piece of Media on your timeline that calls for this HD?

If this is the first piece and it sits for a while before reaching it, your HD may be Sleeping.
If there is other Media that also uses this HD and they are accessible... scary.

Maybe try Transcoding this piece of Media to a different file and see if that helps?

Scary indeed...I have the "never sleep" set for all drives.
This drive is reporting lots of errors ....it must be going south because the files I tried to move locked everything up. Some of the files are just back up for other drives but some are the originals and not backed up elsewhere.
I'll be trying to recover some imporatnt files after breakfast...wish me luck : (
Any suggestions are welcome

UPDATE:
In an effort to save files I hooked the external drive to a laptop and now successfully saving files.
Could this be some kind of software issue?
Seagate states that it uses Windows drivers but it has drive management software ...unfortunately it states it is 32 bit only in big bold letters.
Any advice appreciated,
