Windows 8.1 = Vegas 13 is Dead!

So I upgraded to Windows 8.1 and kept all of my settings. I did not want to spend hours re-installing everything. Besides, my version of Windows 8.1 is upgrade only. A clean install cannot be made with it and I do not want to pay Microsoft more money.

So I ran Vegas 13 and can load videos and render BUT then they will not play on the timeline. That is a no go.

So I downloaded the latest version and clicked on the file to install it. I got the Windows prompt asking if I want it to make changes to my system or not. I told it yes and then absolutely nothing ever happened. The install never ran.

So I am stuck.

I will explain later on why I wanted to upgrade to Windows 8.1

Right now I just want to get this thing working.

Any ideas?

You should have no problems. The program will definitely run on Windows 8.1 (as well as Windows 10, for that matter).

I'd recommend uninstalling Vegas, running a program like CCleaner to clean the registry and reinstalling. When I upgrade my OS, ,I uninstall/reinstall all of my programs as a matter of course.

BTW, you haven't said what operating system you're upgrading from -- but, if you're coming from something than Windows 7 64 bit or Windows 8, you're going to a very different operating system environment.

I finally got it to work and update. Earlier I had tried to use the Go Pro Cineform with it and apparently it left a stuck background whatever running.

A period of time for it to stop and then a restart got it all running now.

My Windows 7 install had that awful Intel Extensible USB3 driver that for ages I could not uninstall without getting a BSOD and no results. After many searches, I finally got that horrible thing uninstalled. There were still BSOD's during the process but with certain procedures I finally got rid of it. I never would have been able (as far as I know) to update that driver. So my USB3 while good would never reach full potential.

Upgrading to Windows 8, 10 and beyond would not have been possible either.

The original Windows 8 was horrible! Updates always failed so I could not use the store to get Windows 8.1. So I found a link on Microsoft's site that allows one to create a DVD image and then install it from a DVD.

Create installation media for Windows 8.1

Thanks for the help.
