Windows 98 SE and Still a bug

I installed Windows 98 SE last night, so now I meet "all" Minimum
requirements, but still get the same bug of recording. Here's what I
do, it doesn't happen everytime, it's pretty much random. I arm
a track for stereo Record. I hit "Cntrl R" record for appoximately 4
seconds, Hit "Return" and then immediately I hit "Cntrl R" and record
another 4 second region. I repeated this for approximately 100 takes
and had 7 out of 100 takes not actually record. After I hit "Cntrl R"
it would play and scroll, but no actual recording happened. So
basically I have a 93% chance of having Vegas record a take, not bad,
I just worry that the take it decides not to go into record is the
best one.
Here's my system.
Asus K7V Motherboard
700Mhz Amd Athlon
128MB PC133 RAM
2-Echo Gina Sound Cards v5.06 driver
Windows 98 SE
OS hardrive= Seagate 7200rpm EIDE 9.1GB
Hard drive Designated for Audio= Seagate 10K rpm SCSI 18.2GB Cheetah.
SCSI Controler=Tekram DC-390F latest driver.

Other Factors: I have a default setup when I start Vegas. This setup
includes 36 Audio tracks (no audio events in them, No fx inserts
except the SF Compressor & EQ all of them unchecked to not be
active),10 stereo busses (1 for each of the Gina cards outputs). 4
Assignable FX's (TC Native Reverb, Timeworks 4080L Reverb,Sonic
Foundry Simple Delay,Sonic Foundry Multi-Tap Delay.) None of the FX's
are active, the checkbox is unchecked. I also assigned my Virtual
Memory to my SCSI Audio drive 600MB max.

Help?

We have had less-than-satisfactory results with Gina/Layla 5.0x
drivers. Vegas works MUCH better with 4.05 drivers. At some point
they'll release a driver update, and you should try it, but as far as
what is out there now, we advise 4.05.

Just FYI I can repro this with Delta 1010. BUT, I did notice, Brian,
that if you zoom in, there IS an event there that you can extend out -
it IS getting recorded it just seems as though it stops drawing the
event for some reason sometimes.

Now that you mention it, I have seen this behavior on one or two
ocassions myself with VV 2.0a when recording into a track that had
previously been recorded into.

Armed track, meters jumping and you would think VV was recording, but
nada in the resultant track file.

It has only happened twice that I recall, and I had completely
forgotten about it until I saw your post ... it had nothing to do
with keystroke sequences.

FWIW

KAC ...

Ahh Yes, Charles YOu are correct, there is actually an event. It is
not drawn I had zoomed way in and then actually grabbed the edge and
slid it out, it was like the event had been trimmed. Oh and by the
way, I miss counted last time with my percentage. I did this again
and I had 12 out of 50 takes not drawn out. So that's a 24% of a
chance to miss the take. But now we see it's actually recorded, it's
just not drawn out, or even an event area. By the way no I was not
arming all 36 Tracks I had just armed one. My setup has 4 Tracks
which I designate to do all my recording to (Mono/Stereo with either
Digital or Analog In) I do my recording in either of those 4 Tracks
and then move the events to a designated track below it for editing
and mixing.

I have a request, if you havn't done so yet:

Turn SRP off - i.e. only record, don't play back during this test.
Does the problem persiist in any way?

Also...set up for only 1 or 2 main buses. 10 stereo busses is just a
lot of i/o going on.

One other note, as this has been mentioned a number of times:

Bypassing an FX does not remove it from the chain. In order to be
realtime always, we have to stream through the filter even when
bypased. The _only_ way to prevent data from being streamed through a
filter is by removing it. It is just the way filters/plugins work.
(One exception. The special track enabled fx when set for their
default settings, are optimized to do nothing, so there is no hit.)
