Windows Media Player reflects 25 second runtime

Sometimes, when I render movies in MPEG-2, no matter how long or short, Windows Media Player declares the length to be exactly 25 seconds. When I play it through any other player, like DivX, it shows the proper length.

Anyone ever experience this weird anomaly? I'm still troubleshooting the exact setting in which this happens.

Thx,

I can render mp3's from Vegas for the web and some of them will show up as an arbitrary time that is not even close to the actual time of the audio file. Most of them run about 45-55 minutes and sometimes it will show 17 minutes or some other random small number. This is in Windows Media Player mind you.

I have not had this issue with mpg's though. What mpeg decoder do you have that you are using for Windows Media Player to play the files? That may be your issue.

That's an outstanding point -- this may be with just WMP, as my DivX 7 player reflects the correct time, every time. I notice my WMP total runtime is accurate up to when I start messing with sliding/moving only the video or audio track.

Finding the mpeg decoder in my WMP is not intuitive-- I'll have to find out. I thought MainConcept, the mpeg codec that came with Vegas Pro would propagate to my media players but guess not? I don't intend to buy the codec from the vendor site just to plug it into WMP.

I have found in the past with WMP if I make several files (versions) that have the same name - the length listed is cached from an earlier version ..

I think that's the pattern, right there... that's happened to me more than once now where by rendering to a brand new filename, the time is accurately reflected in WMP. Not sure whether to declare that a bug in Vegas Pro since it only happens in WMP yet if it truly is cached info that Vegas doesn't clear out, well, maybe Vegas needs to be adjusted.
