First of all, where did the file come from?
i.e. digital camera, another capture app, etc.

I saw this exact same behaviour when the vid file was MP4. Played perfectly in Win Media Player but not in Vegas.

I believe there are multiple version of the MP4 codec distributed by M'soft. Search their knowledge base and you'll fnd a stand alone codec installer.

Once I did that, I could play the vid fine in Vegas.

Perhaps it's an MJPEG .AVI file? If so, then Windows Media Player includes a Direct-X MJPEG codec and will play the file. Vegas only sees and uses VFW (Video for Windows) compatible codecs, so the file won't play in Vegas unless you install a VFW-compatible MJPEG codec. www.mainconcept.com has one and I believe that you can download the demo and use it to decode the file. Morgan Multimedia is another source.

Interesting.

I'm having MP4 play in RealPlayer but NOT the video in QT-player? QT Audio fine, video is WHITE. RP is good for Vid and Aud?
