Windows .wmv files

I have a Windows Media Video (.wmv) file that was captured with a cheap Dazzle card. However, whenever I try to drop the video onto a track, VV says its an unsupported type. What do I need to do inorder to use this clip? I have the Windows Media Player 7.x installed along with VV 2.0b.

I think it is impossible to do it.
Only AVI and MPG.

WMV is Microsoft's secure Windows Media Video format. It can be played back by Windows Media player or a few other programs, but cannot be opened for direct editing by any software that I am aware of. You should capture your video using a format designed for editing, such as AVI. MPG may work, but could be lossier depending on the bitrate you use.

Is there a way to convert it to a *.avi format? I don't really have access to the original source. A friend of mine took some vhs video of a birthday party and captured it with a cheap "Dazzle" box. The file I got from him is a *.wmv file. I'm not sure the "Dazzle" box has a lot of options for file formats(it was only about $50) and if it does, I'm not sure my friend is computer savy enough to be able understand them anyhow.

No, there is no way to decode WMV to an editable format. Microsoft designed Windows Media to be a secure format that companies could use to place copyrighted content on the net without worry of piracy/infringement. At this time, I do not know of any companies who produce software that can decode a WMV file. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.
