The drivers are completely operational with all the WinTV software, and VDUB. VV3.0 however cannnot initallize / access the card. The software complains that there is no device detected. This is a typical BT8x8 tv card. Any ideas? Also this is a full registered copy of VV3. Also this is the latest drivers form Haupauge.
Well I did try various older drivers all the way to the original CD driver. Now Haupauge has a pretty good utility to remove all traces of the drivers. In any case, the capture utility sees the driver available but cannot initialize it I guess. All buttons remain greyed out and thre really is no error message except that there is no device. Reconnecting with current device does nothing also. But you can select the MSvideo "driver". I know this worked with the old 2.0 ??? version that was around about three months ago. Again, all other programs have no problem accessing the card. Any other ideas?? :)
Very strange...do you still have Video 2.0x installed? It's still available for download from our website. You may want to test that to see if it still works with your card?
What exactly do you mean that you can select MSvideo "driver"?
The Hauppauge driver is a WDM driver, correct?
Have you installed anything else on your system?
You may want to try uninstalling/reinstalling Vegas.
Funny I tried 2.0 capture utility last night
It no longer works either. I uninstalled it.
I have a registered copy of VV3
The Haugpauge drivers are VFW drivers. They
recommend that you use them over the WDM drivers.
What I mean about "MSVIDEO" is that the capture
utility knows that the driver is installed and is selectable in the video menu. When
you select it, it appears to try to comminicate
with the card but it just comes back with no
message except that "no device" is listed on
the very bottom of the utility within one of
the message frames.
The weird thing is that all other apps have
no problem using the card. WinTv2K is ok, Vdub is
ok. No complaints. Windows shows the card as
functional. Drivers are updated properly. I have
completely uninstalled the BT878 drivers using
Haupauge's uninstall utility. It has to be
something in the registry for VV3 or something related.
Does an uninstall of VV3 remove all registery
entries?

Sigh....
Here is the error I get....
The device MSVIDEO: Brooktree bt848 capture driver could not be opened
Please make sure it is turned on and not being used by another
application or user.
I've had most of these same troubles with the WinTV card. It would often
work (well, not perfect, but as advertised) with most applications, yet rarely
be accessible from SF's Video Capture. When VidCap did recognize it, i
had no access to the configuration options; i could only capture at the
last resolution/frame rate/codec that i had used the card with in other
software.
The biggest thing i discovered about the WinTV is that it's just inconsistent.
Some days it works, some days it doesn't. Many times i had to remove
and reinstall all the drivers to get it working again. Sometimes the drivers
on the original CD would get it going, sometimes i'd have to use the latest
stuff from their website.
I finally just gave up trying to use it with VidCap and use the WinTVCap
application that comes with the card for my capturing, then open the .avi
files in Vegas/VideoFactory. That was the least painful solution.
Now i've upgraded to using the Sony DVMC-DA2 instead and it's just
worlds better.
I've been using the WinTV Go card on Win2k for a year now using the WDM drivers without a hitch, cable feed is solid. You can use the arrow keys to switch channels or the +/- keys, too.
Well I fixed it.... Don't know exactly why but I was working on a separate issue related to my network card. To cut to the chase, I discovered that my network card was sharing an IRQ with the onboard audio chip. I think this was causing occasional network 'hang'. Knowing that typically 3com cards hate to share IRQ's, I moved the card to another slot. As soon as I did, viola! The winTV board works fine. Have no idea why this is. Did not move the TV card.. Oh well I love Win98!
