WinXP - DirectX 8.1 Plugins Don't Work

I recently bought a new Dell 1.6 GHz P4 with Windows XP preloaded, and when I reloaded Vegas Audio 2.0h, the DirectX plugins don't work. They show up under the "Shared Plugins" directory, but when I open up a project, I get an error message stating that they aren't loaded. Then if I try to play the file, I get an "Unknown Error", and playback craps out. Support keeps telling me just to re-install, but I've done that many times over, to no avail. Do the XFX 1,2 & 3 plugins work at all with Audio 2.0h in XP, or am I losing my friggin' mind?

When you say you re-installed, what did you re-install and in what order? I can't test your exact problem, but I can tell you what I think it is -- perhaps Sonic Foundry can verify.

It sounds like Vegas Video 2 is replacing DirectX DLL's with older versions. Re-installing won't help you if Vegas Video is the last app that you are installing and this turns out to be the problem.

Don't know if Vegas Video 3 is an option for you, but I can at least say for certain that it works fine with XP.

Have you installed DirectX 8.1 ?

Don't know when or why it happened, but my DirectX Plugins magically appeared when I re-installed Vegas Audio 2.0h for the fifth time. Now I get "unknown" and timeout errors causing cancellation of playback! Will my ineptitude never end?
