WinXP x64 and Blu-ray

I'm building a new computer and hope to use Win XP Pro X64 OS. Others on this forum have commented that Vegas 8 works well with this OS.

In researching what Blu-ray writer to purchase I asked SonyStyle if their BWU200S Blu-ray disc burner works with X64. They said "NO."

Any reports from others? If you use XP Pro X64 what Blu-ray burner do you use?

Thanks,
Don

Vegas is not (and will not) be officially supported by XP64. This has been clearly stated. (Other software/hardware manufactures have stated the same.) Future versions of Vegas will be written for Vista 64 only. If you are building a new machine then you should simply move on to Vista 64 and avoid the added expense of having to do it later.

None of SONY's apps are "OFFICIALLY" supported, yet every single one works without issue on both my desktop and laptop running x64 XP Pro - even my copy of Acid Pro 4. I've tried every single one and they have worked without issue.

So to make a blanket statement like that is premature until the apps are officially released and we know for sure.

I never said the app wouldn't work.... I said it wouldn't be officially supported. Not a "blanket statement".... just a simple fact.

If this person is building a new machine then it would make more sense to build it on par and up to date.

HI,

I'm running VP 8.0b on XP Pro x64 with no problems (quad core QX9650). Everything works smoothly and the system is rock solid and very, very fast.

However, I had to disable the media manager due to some conflicts - not a big issue for me personally, since every project I do is its own entity - there is no or very little material sharing - so the media maganer is not a must.

I have one soundcard issue (EMU 1212) but the problem lies probably in the soundcard driver, since also other applications have the same symptoms (no sound from my ASIO PCI-soundcard before I reselect it in the actual application).

Our company policy is to avoid Vista under all circumstances (believer me, there are sound reasons for this - I don't want to reopen this can of worms). I have "upgraded" two Vista PC:s to XP x64, and lived happily since.

Sadly - the 64 bit Vegas will be the ONLY reason (and application) why we have to reconsider switching to Vista!!! You'll bet I'm going to try how Vegas 64 runs on XP x64, before makin any decisions, even if not supported...

Don't get me wrong, I understand the reasons why SCS is not supporting XP x64 (lack of development tools, together with the fact that x64 is not very wide-spead), but I feel pity for them at the same time - they are fully dependent this bloatware as Vista is... Someone asked for Vegas for OS X... That's another can of worms, but I would buy such version immediately...

Christian

EDIT: I'm only considering a blu-ray burner, so I have no experienses concering BR and XP x64...
