wma editing

Should I be able to edit a windows media file? I have some wma files with combined audio and video (free files downloaded off the web). I tried editing them in MS. The audio plays back fine. The video however played back very very jerky - it updated once every couple of seconds. I am talking about the playback in the pre-view window.

The files play back perfectly in the windows media player - and Real player.

I have MS3.0. Are wma files an unsupported format?
thanks

Usually video files are .wmv file type. Maybe I'm the last to know that sometimes they're tagged as .wma?

In any case, you might try importing the clips onto the timeline and then rendering them out to .avi. Then reimport the .avi and maybe MS will have an easier time previewing them for you.
