WMV Linear only?

I posted the context of this under dvda forum.

I made a WMV file of this (it fits on one cd, and it plays fine but it only plays linear. I cannot skip to a different place in the file. Is this an issue that anybody else is dealing with? It took 17 hours to render it while it took only 5 for the mpg-2 to be rendered. The file is approximately 2 1/2 hours long. I would like to make the slider bar accessible for the WMV version as most will not watch this in one setting. What settings do I need to change or is this something that is unavoidable when rendering to WMV? It was rendered in the newest version of Vegas 6.

You need to select the option to index the file in the advanced tab. Indexing will permit seeking.

ep. You can download the Windows Media Encoder from microsoft.com and and you the file editor to index and save your file. :)

Also from memory WMV lets you insert chapter markers, it's not that easy to find them in WMP but I;ve used them with WMA and for me that can make WMA much more user friendly than mp3
