wmv plugin not working

i have vegas video 3.0 and my wmv encoding plugin is not working at all. i re-installed vegas, i tried installing the latest windows media vcm and nothing. when i try to do a custom compression using it all the droplists are blank and even the templates don't work. any ideas as to why? it was working not too long ago.

I could be wrong....and I probably am....but it sounds like you may have installed a codec that is screwing up the process.

Have you installed, updated, added anything else to your system inbetween the time it was working and now is not?

Are you running on WinXP SP1? Take a look this Knowledge Base article below, it links to a fix for this problem that you can install.
