Where / when is DVDA telling you the file is "too big"? Do you mean in the status bar (bottom right of the screen)? Or do you get a message when you attempt to burn the disc? If so, what's the exact message?

If it's just the size estimate at the bottom of the screen, that's probably got nothing to do with the problem you're having. That estimate is always wrong.

Hi Rob... thanks for you help....

It's NOT the estimate in the corner..

When I click on "Make DVD"... an error message box says...

"It has been determined the project is too large for the selected media. Would you like to continued anyway?"

When I click 'Yes'...

DVDA kicks out the DVD and says...

"The data provided is too large to fit on the available disc space" (The 4.7GB DVD is blank, and the project itself is only 2.4GB)

The details of the error are:
'SFMMCX'-(17)
'atapi'-(0)
-'_NEC DVD+-RW ND-3450A 102B'-(0)
Module mmc.cpp Line 861

Just do the prepare phase, not the burn. Then total up the size of the files in the VIDEO_TS folder. If they are less than 4.37GB you're ok, and you're simply encountering DVDAS's inability to deal with every burner/media situation.

Use Nero or CopyToDVD to actually burn the perpared files.

Scott...

They add up to 3.9GB. How do I get DVDA to recognize my burner w/out getting Nero or CopyToDVD? I hate to spend more $$$$

I can think of only one other choice - upgrade to a newer version of DVDA - only problem, an upgrade is going to be much more expensive than the purchase price for something like CopyToDVD, which goes for around $40 as I recall, and you still have no promise that DVDA 2.0 or 3.0 will work any better with your burner.

DVDA's track record isn't very good when it comes to working with different burners and media.

CopyToDVD gives you a 30 day full functional free trial so you can at least be sure whether it will work or not.

First thing you should try is using a different kind of media. If you've been trying DVD+R, try a DVD-R. If you've been trying DVD-R, try DVD_R. ReWriteable media, try non-ReWriteable.

To be honest, I've not seen a "to large to fit" error in any case other than when the project was really too large. But I wouldn't put anything past DVDA's burning portion, particular from 1.0.
