What kind of video files are they? What format, file type, and codec?

Where are the files coming from? How were they recorded?

How are you getting them into your computer? What hardware, connections, and software are you using?

We are trying to import them directly from a DV Camera.

We are using the platinum version of Vegas using a USB cord.

The files work on windows media player, but are silent in vegas.

You should be importing DV files using a Firewire capture, not USB. The capture application in Vegas will capture them directly to your hard drive in their native format.
(And don't use Windows Movie Maker to capture DV-AVI. The files are non-compliant and about the only thing they'll play on is Windows Media Player.)

Sorry, my mistake but we are using firewire. We are using the vegas capture. I just played the clips in Windows media to see if it would work. I have tried everything I can think of and we are getting zero audio - great video.

Sorry to bring up the obvious, but is "Capture Audio" checked in your Vidcap preferences?

Options->Preferences->Capture

Don't apologize - I wish it were something simple - it is selected.

That is odd -- can you upload a sample (10-30 sec) of your captured video someplace?

Have you upgraded Quicktime recently. If so roll back to the previous version.

We tried the quicktime solution and it didn't help - going to try vegas newest version 9.0b and see if that is the problem

What camera model are they being taken from?
Can you upload a raw clip somewhere?
What does MediaInfo (freeware) say about the files?
Are you sure you're using Vegas Vidcap? Have you tried a different firewire cable? Have you tried Scenealyzer?

I just joined this forum because I am having this same problem, as described here. I don't know what Vegas Vidcap is or what a firewire cable is. I am using the cable that came with my Sony DCR DVD810. I have updated DirectX and Quicktime to 7.60.
