Vegas seems to save the preferences when you save a .vf project file. Make all your changes, then save a project file, even a dummy one. After that your changes should be remembered.

I have saved test projects in the .vf project file format. I have clicked the box in properties to save setting for all projects. Close properties, then reopen and the check would be cleared. I may have a path problem, because when I save a project
to my external hard drive and click on the drive in Vegas it can't find the drive. I can go
to that drive click on the project ,Vegas will then open the project. I have also saved projects to a folder in My Documents with no luck. I will install Vegas in another computer and see how it goes. Thanks for your reply

Are you clicking the OK button at the very bottom of the dialog? If you are running on an 800x600 display you may not see this button. Clicking the close box (the 'X' at the upper right) is the same as clicking Cancel.

If this is the case, either increase your screen resolution or move the dialog box up on your screen so you can see the buttons at the bottom.

Thank you for your help,
The problem in solved . The problem was in the Registry Editor , found Sony Vegas folder, Right clicked / Permission/ clicked the Full Control box / Apply and that did it. I don't know why, but both computers did the same thing. Now I can say I like Vegas better than Premiere.

Hi hdw

What is the precise path (i.e. HKEY.....) in the registry for the Permission you wrote about?
I have been searching, but did not find it.
It seems to me, that such a thing as "Full Control" could be very interesting :-)

Hi ritsmer

HKEY_CURRENT_USER / Software / Sony Media / Vegas Movie Studio Platinum

Right click on Sony Media or Vegas Movie Studio folder / Permission / click Full Control / Apply

If you have Vegas set to start up in your last project, and it does. Then Vegas has the Full Control box checked.

I've noticed that computers with more than one user accounts have to go into each user's Vegas and change the preferences so the changes stay.

hdw,

You shouldn't have needed to change registry permissions for HKEY_CURRENT_USER.

Are you running any antivirus or registry monitoring software that might have been preventing Vegas Movie Studio from updating the registry?

ForumAdmin,

Sorry I haven't had time to post the real problem. You are right, I shouldn't have to change the Registry. The problem was Registry Mechanic and me. I checked the Enable Registry Monitor. That stopped Sony Vegas from doing it's thing in the Registry, not allowing Sony Vegas to save any setting I changed.
