work surface

Am I the only guy out here using Vegas and REALLY wanting a
worksurface for mixing. I have a modest case of tendinitis
in my 'mousing wrist', spend all day at work on a pc, and
would really apprectiate having mixing functions placed on
a piece of hardware other than a mouse.

I understand that the program doesn't expose it's interface
to midi control. Was that something that got cut out to
make a release date?

How 'bout a surface that connected via USB, had 16 sliders,
assigned by default this way: 8 to the first eight track
volumes, and eight to the first eight busses volumes (move
the buss or track around and the assignment changes
accordingly), a quick up and down arrow for changing the
assignments for both groups to the next pair of 8. Each
track strip and buss strip should have mute, solo, and pan
knobs (an alpha/num display for panning would be groovy).
A buss assignment rotary knob for the track strips with an
alpha display would be groovy also.

Of course the faders would be motorized, and would update
to the software settings when they were switched. Settings
for the mixers control assignments could be fully overriden
and saved to files for quick recall, and 'written' into
projects.

That's about it, think Santa can deliver one by Christmas
2001?

No Erich... you're not the only 1, but, you know, it seems people @
Sonic Foundry doesen't believe in Vegas as a serious alternative to
more expensive multitrack editors as Protools.
Me too i've asked for Jog/Dial and transport control via midi and i'm
still waiting for an answer...

Then they were three... I would like to see Jog/Dial control for
scrubbing via Midi, too.

Yep, it is on our list. We are looking at solutions.

No promises as to when...but XMas 2001 sounds fair. Thanks Peter. My mouse wrist can probably wait 'til then. I'm
hoping that you guys take the time to provide something above and
beyond what cakewalk did with Peavey and their hardware software
package. I personally don't want a surface with audio throughput,
I'd prefer to provide my own pre-amps. I can live with using the GUI
for effect paramaters and routing.

Has anyone thought about developing a CE based platform that
connected to the workstation via serial, or USB, and leveraging the
relatively 'thick' layer that a CE device could provide. Maybe by
exposing the message handlers that are trapped by the software when
the mouse moves to the ce device someone could develop a 'mouse with
balls' as it were sans tapping resources on the host.
