Workflow for creating subclips not very intuitive

I have a need to create and name quite a few subclips. I’ve been trying to do this with the trimmer and it doesn’t seem very intuitive. I hope someone smarter than me has some better ideas. Here is what I’ve been trying in the trimmer window:

Use the new cursor drag or a Shuttle jog wheel to find and then mark the IN of the selection.

For long clips use the mouse to drag the OUT of the selection. The cursor is now blinking at the right side of the selection. If I try and use the Shuttle jog wheel to fine tune the right side of the selection the cursor jumps to the IN of the selection. Is there a way to jog from the OUT of the selection?

Ok so now we have a selection so right click and select “create subclip”, name it and hit ok. The focus is now on the timeline instead of the trimmer. It would be nice if the focus went back to the trimmer.

I have yet to figure out an accurate way to get the cursor to the OUT of the just created subclip so I can start scanning for where to create the next subclip, again, either by dragging the cursor or using the Shuttle jog. I suppose I could set a marker when I set the OUT but that seems like a bit of a kludge. Any suggestions?

Slightly related problem is that sometime when dragging the cursor in the trimmer the cursor isn’t released when I let up on the left mouse button. This doesn’t seem predictable.

Why are you taking the clips out of the Trimmer if you are creating subclips? You can create subclips directly in the Trimmer too, based on the region selected.
As for the cursor, visit your Prefs and turn off cursor scrubbing if it's not working the way you want it to. Without markers, trying to work on a small or fine point section is easier with scrubbing turned off, IMO

Spot. I guess my explanation was confusing - so here goes.

All I am trying to do is select a section of the trimmer, create and name a subclip, and repeat.

My challenges are twofold: First how to use the Shuttle Pro to fine tune the end of the selection I'm creating, if I use cursor drag, and second how to get the cursor accurately back to the end of the just created clip after the subclip create dialog box goes away so I am in a position to start on the next clip.

The reason I am using cursor drag is that some of the clips are long and I was getting impatient with the maximum jog speed. Setting it to high in the prefs helps.

Keep in mind that you can set the in and out points with the I and O keys after you move the cursor frame by frame with Alt/Arrow or any of the usual timeline methods.

To start your next clip at the end of the last, just grab the edge of the old in point and drag it to the right, past the out point.

Here's an alternate method: Put the clip on the timeline, put regions around all of the "subclips" you want. Name the regions the name appropriately for the subclips. And then run "Extract Good Clips" in Tsunami. Afterwards you can delete everything on the timeline but you'll have all of your subclips in the media pool.
