Workflow - MM, Trimmer, Timeline

TeetimeNC wrote on 11/12/2008, 6:27 AM
I find Media Manager useful for categorizing project clips prior to starting the editing process. My workflow could improve considerably if I could do the following (which I haven't been able to figure out):

1. Select a clip from MM.
2. Drag it to the trimmer.
3. Trim to fit an existing timeline clip.
4. Add the trimmed clip to the timeline clip as a new take.

It is step 4 that I am not able to do. Anyone know of a way to do this. If not, any script experts out there know if this is possible with scripting?

Can't you simply highlight the section you want in the trimmer (ie; make your cut), then right click on it, drag it to the timeline and put it where you want it, and then select Add As Takes? You have to right click & drag though, then when you release the right mouse button you'll get the menu.

Does that work? I'm not sure, I guess (not having done it before).

You are right. I was sure I had tried that. Apparently not.

Great!
Now, if a selected clip portion could be dragged from one Vegas instance's trimmer, to another's timeline...

Cool! That's just one of the tricks (the right click and drag business) that I have learned from this Digital Video and Audio Production book that I purchased from SCS. It's great, and I cannot believe how many little gems it has taught me...

Megabit, for what you want to do, why can't you save the trimmer cut as a subclip, and then copy it and paste it to the media bin of the other Vegas instance--and then just drag it to the timeline?

It's another step, but it allows you to accomplish what you are trying to do.
