Working with a clip in "Trimmer"

A few days ago, someone posted the process for launching the trimmer tab in the media section. Unless I am doing something wrong, it appears that when you right click on a media file, and then select open in trimmer, that section displays that clip in a window for one to do some "pre-editing" prior to placing on the timeline. Is this what most of you use the trimmer for?

I guess I envision being able to select a portion of a clip in the trimmer and then dragging it into the timeline. If that is a use, how would one go through this process? Somehow you would have to select the beginning and ending of the section you want then select it to drag.

The trimmer is a great tool , unfortunately with little documentation. At the top of the trimmer timeline, there are two yellow markers that can be dragged to set the in/out points. The frame of each marker is displayed in the preview window. There are also tools at the bottom that set the in/out points and there are two buttons that move the selection to the end of your main timeline or to the current cursor location. The video changes color to allow you to see the selected section in the trimmer timeline. You can make as many selections as you like from the trimmer and you have not changed the original in an way. The tools at the bottom should tell you what they are when you "drag" over them. There are also three counters that tell you the in/out/total time of your selection.
Check it out. You will find it a real time saver.
