Working with BetaSP in Vegas

I've a project with some BetaSP tapes that someone else shot. I'm going to load the footage on to my computer through a Beta deck through firewire and through vegas capture.

I've never worked with Beta on my computer before...is there anything I should keep in mind? What is the ratio for video to hard drive space? Do I load the project settings as NTSC DV...or just NTSC or something else?

Thanks for your help,
Jeremiah

When I have done this I just captured through an ADS Pyro AVlink into the Vegas vidcap program as good old DV. This is the only way to get component analog into the system without a more expensive capture card, like the Decklink, that I am aware of.

The only down side is that Beta SP converted to DV (through the Pyro AV link) does not look quite as good as if you were capturing uncompressed - but of course this may or may not be a problem in your situation.

hope this helps,

You can also use the SOny J30 decks to capture via firewire however again you don't get as good a result as capturing 10bit 4:2:2. If the material is already graded then this may not matter quite as much. Of course down here in PAL land the 4:2:0 capture via firewire probably looks better than it does in NTSC.
