Working with CinemaDNG and ProRes 4K files

I'm considering purchasing an A7s+Atamos Shogun 4K recorder, but the recorder only records to ProRes and CinemaDNG files. Will Vegas 13 (or 12) be able to work with these files natively?

I've heard horror stories about ProRes working fine... until there are a lot of clips in the project. Then there are reports of the plugin crashing, resulting in black frames.

I'm also open to suggestions about purchasing a different camera setup all-together.

thanks!

CinemaDNG -> NO.
ProRes in MOV files -> Yes. You need Quicktime installed.

Due to how Vegas interfaces with Quicktime you will have a limit of about ProRes 50 files open in a project. You will know when step beyond the limit. Vegas will crash.

I have no experience with 4K ProRes other than a handful of BlackMagic UHD ProRes sample files I downloaded from BM. They loaded and played fine in Vegas, but I only had 4-5 files loaded.

You can handle CinemaDNG files using Blackmagic's Resolve, available as a free download. It is also the best colour correction program around, so you can kill two birds with the one stone.
