Working with Quicktime movie

A friend of mine sent me a CD with a Quicktime Movie on it and asked me if I could burn him a DVD of it. Well instead of doing the smart thing and just burning him a DVD I thought, I can turn this little slide show into something pretty cool in Vegas. I Imported the movie into a new Vegas project, then proceeded to split each picture as I would need more time for transitions, fades etc. I would stretch each picture as needed buy holding hown the Ctrl key and moving the curser as needed, A little tricky as it seems as though when I split the pictures and seperated them on the time line, the rest of the movie still remained behind the actual picture I split.
No biggie, I would just have to be careful with each one so as not to get unwanted images popping up. Everything was going great,
things looked really good in the preview full mode. I decided I should render a section where a lot of transitions etc, were going on to make sure everything was okay. To my dismay when rendered it plays back as though a 3rd image is always faintly in the backround.
Bummer, it is like this through all I've done. I cant understand why it's happening and why it looks perfect in the preview full and does not show up until the render. I've got to be doing something wrong here so help me out guys. I cant believe you cannot split a Quicktime movie into segments and work with them, HELP!!!
