They're not linked in any way, shape, or form. I use Sonic Fire Pro very heavily. I have two workflows:
1. For short videos, e.g., 15 second logo reveals, I just dial in a track in SFP, export to my desired format (e.g., WAV), and drop the rendered WAV onto the Vegas timeline.
2. For long form, e.g., creating an entire soundtrack, I lock an edit first in Vegas. No color grading or color correction is needed; only cuts and fades. Then I render a very low-rez "scoring master," usually as an AVI (I like Cineform because it's tidy and plays nicely). Why very low-rez, e.g., SD? Just so it will play and scrub very smoothly in SFP. So back in SFP, I import the scoring master, click on a sync button, and then I'm ready to lay down music on a frame-accurate basis. SmartSound has some excellent tuts for doing this, but frankly it is quite intuitive.
Once I'm happy with the soundtrack, I export it and drop it onto the Vegas timeline where it is perfectly synchronized to the video just as it was in SFP with the scoring master. (I cap both ends of my video and, hence, the scoring master, too, with empty events to make absolutely certain that my audio length from SFP matches the video length. A little OCD, but you get the idea...)
Workflow 2 is what SmartSound teaches you to do. Since SFP is not (yet) a Vegas plugin, one must resort to this round trip style of working.
Wonder if others have a "best" workflow that differs from mine...
My workflow mimics that of vtxrocketeer workfolw two
1/ Finish cutting in Vegas (to get the correct length of clip)
2/ Render to low-res AVI or similar
3/ Import low-res avi into Sonic Fire Pro
4/ Render music
5/ Import music into Vegas
6/ Finish project
thanks for the workaround. Just updated to sonicfire 5.8 and noticed a few more NLE's have plugins. Why not Vegas Pro. Who do we contact in Vegas Pro to ask them to do it?
Up to Vegas v8, as long as Vegas was open, you could 'export' to it, and in that one step, the track would render out and be imported as project media so you could immediately drag it to the time-line.
I have asked many times what happened post Vegas v8, but have never received a satisfactory response.
The current workflow is not too cumbersome - maybe one step extra, but it would be nice.
