I am reasonably satisisfied VF 1.0 user, who is considering upgarding to VF 2.0.

I would be interested to hear from VF2.0 users who had VF1.0, to get their
opinion if the upgrade is worth the money, time and effort.

if you believe it is, what new feature do you consider the most important.
Also what trade offs are there.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

I upgraded simply because it was only $30 at the time and that was
pocket change. I figured that the 1.0 version of anything probably needs
a lot of work, so upgrading seemed like a good idea just for that reason.

Overall i was very happy with the upgrade. It had lots of new features
and tools that are very useful. I had only two slight annoyances and one
major annoyance.

1) The trimmer and scrubber are missing, but they can be restored if you
don't mind poking around in the internal options. Lots of stuff on that
has been posted in here. Just BE CAREFUL and remember that holding
down Ctrl-Shift when starting Video Factory will reset everything to the
factory defaults if you get stuck.

2) I don't like the new "Make Movie" dialog. I've never liked software
that does too many things for me. I always skip that dialog and go
straight to "Advanced". I just get slightly annoyed at having to click the
extra button each time.

3) And the major annoyance is that Version 2 is a "single instance"
program ... you can only have one copy of it open on your desktop at
once. Version 1 lets you open up several copies so that you can have
multiple renders run all night. Unfortunately, even though you may keep
1.0 on your computer after you upgrade, it won't open 2.0's files.

However, those three annoyances aside, for me the upgrade was
definately worth it!

I did the upgrade to VF2 also because of the price. I felt I couldn't loose and I didn't. I had difficulties with the ripple edit function and the grouping working the way I expected in VF1 and VF2 fixed that. It also added the cookie cutter effect/transition and some basic masking which I needed for some happy face videos.

I agree about the make movie dialogs, yuck.

I didn't stay long with VF2 though. An offer for Vegas Video 3 came out and I grabbed it. After getting VV3 I dumped my Pinnacle apps and other editing tools that I had been using. Each one was for a particular job. VF was for all of the pan and scan projects I was doing. Now VV3 filled all the uses and was smoother to work in. I can tell you that if you can upgrade to VV3 to do so. You will never be sorry. It is a full featured, user freindly post production tool.

VF2 is a nice improvement on the VF1. To overcome things like the make movie dialogs you can still click the custom render button and find all that you are used to having. It is not a ground breaking change though. The multiple fonts on one titler screen is a nice improvement and useful. The color correction filters are better now. In general I just found it more stable athough I had very little problems with VF1.

I don't know if that will help. I still reccommend going on to VV3 if you can. It will be absolutly familiar to you, but you may have to stay up a lot of nights to have to figure out a part of what it can do for you.
