WOW! 11 sec HDV clip takes 11 min to render

I cross faded two HDV clips then added red text with weak light rays and rendered to 1080i intermediate (Cineform) avi and it took 11 minutes for the 11 second loop. It worked fine though I might have to create a beast machine for this stuff.
P4-3.4 800, 2 gig ram, hyperthreading, Sata.

yeah!!! While the HDV compression saves disk space, the processing time to decode/recode, as well as the increased frame size, really increases the required computing power in a geometric way. It's not linear at all. Just one of the little gotchas with HDV.
