WTB: Sony Vegas 9

Well, I never thought it would happen, but I have outgrown Sony Vegas Studio Platinum on Windows. I need more video tracks and would like to take advantage of 3D motion tracking.

Looks like I can upgrade for around $400, but I am curious if maybe someone on the forum has a copy they are not using anymore, so I can save some money. To be clear, although I am OK with used software, I am not talking about pirated software or software still in use.

If anyone does, please let me know.

You may want to wait since Movie Studio Platinum 10 is out Vegas Pro 10 may be just around the corner and if you buy Vegas 9 too soon you may have to pay again to upgrade to Vegas Pro 10.

I'm not sure what the release interval is between Studio Upgrade and Pro because Vegas 9 Pro is the first of the Pro series I've used and I purchased the upgrade to Pro 9 a while after I had Studio Platinum 9.

If you can live w/ out 3D motion tracking for now Vegas Studio 10 offers 10 video tracks rather than the pathetic 4 tracks that came w/ the previous versions. Not sure if the discounted upgrade to Vegas Studio Platinum 10 is still at $40 but I was able to purchase at this price for a friend a week after the expiration date.

Good advice. Thanks for providing it. I do see that v10 of Studio does now have 10 tracks... which is awesome. And it looks like I can indeed get it relatively inexpensively as an upgrade. I dunno if Magic Bullet Looks works in it though.

I have downloaded Pro 9 trial just to see, and I have to say, the titler and the 3d motion tracking make it rather compelling to go to Pro anyways. Being a hobby (I am not a professional videographer) and something I enjoy as an art form I am just trying to find the most inexpensive way to get the appropriate tools. Who knows... maybe when Pro 10 comes out there may be a chance to get 9 for less money.

I'm not a professional either, just a serious hobbyist who enjoys doing this stuff on my spare time. I'm not good enough to make a living at it. (:

Speaking of making a living at it, I find it odd that the amount of very low quality TV commercials that have highly pixilated graphics w/ cheezy pixilated text. Makes me wonder if the editors that make this stuff are are pros and how much they get paid to produce that junk?

I'll bet everyone on this forum can do higher quality work than the clowns that do the low quality commercials out there.

Playing around with the video editing and this forum has made me more aware and critical of the "quality" of the media that's projected on the TV. Not sure if that's a good thing. ((:

As w/ Pro 9, you can see if 10 fits your needs and if Magic Bullet works by downloading the demo.

Right now SCS is offering 20% off all products so now would be a good time to upgrade, it is in the July newsletter if you do not get it you can subscribe to it.

Somebody will correct me if I am wrong, but buying a 2nd-hand license, which IS a allowed, denies you the option of any future "upgrade" discounts - until you get to buy a copy of the license from fresh outright.

Oh yeah . . . As to being "only" an amateur, if you are already making the type of critical aesthetic observations along with your technical concerns about other's "professional" work, in the way you are doing, then I'd say: Good For You! Maybe there is a place for the Unpaid-Professional?

I like your approach to this craft and may you carry on and prosper in anyway you may. Filmmaking IS a remarkable pursuit - I'll lay odds that within 2-years you will be charging.

Best regards

Grazie

Concerning the ability to upgrade a transferred license, it depends on if the original holder has upgraded or not. If they have, you can't, and if they haven't, you can.

When Vegas Pro 8 was released they had special pricing.
Special introductory pricing through October 31!*

During that time my friends were able to upgrade to Pro 8 from the various versions I had transferred to them over the years. I don't know if the upgrade restrictions are true because they never tried to upgrade until Pro 8.
