WWOT: Firefox add-ons lost

Tom Pauncz wrote on 11/17/2014, 9:47 AM
Thought I'd ask here, just in case, while I am continuing to research the issue.

Shutdown last night, no system updates recently, and this morning on launching Firefox (33.1) noticed a large bunch of my carefully selected add-ons were no longer active or listed.

Anyone seen this?? Any idea how to get them back short of re-installing the missing ones?

TIA,
Tom

I just noticed that Firefox is installing 33.1 update right now on my machine. When I restart, I'll see what my add-ons look like. Every now and then a major update will be incompatible with a lot of add-ons and we'll have to wait for the developers to catch up.

Thanks, but I had been using 33.1 for a while now with no add-ons being found incompatible.

I did find some mention that like it is Avast 2015 is the culprit, but have not been able to either verify or resolve. I updated to Avast 2015 on the 12th.

Will try a restore point I created two days ago and see how that goes.

Same here, but an update to 33.1 was installing when I checked the "about Firefox" tab. I let it complete, restarted and all my add-ons are still active on all my machines so it may be Avast that is the issue. Good luck.

Since we are way off topic....I also use Firefox, but lately I've been trying Pale Moon (x64)...I think it's the same company (and features)..it might be a tad quicker. So far I'm very happy with PaleMoon and switching for my default browser.

Update: restores did not fix issue. Had to re-install each of the missing add-ons.

I've been using Pale Moon for over a year. The code is based on Firefox but there are differences. I much prefer it to Firefox, not least because of Mozilla's update cycle. Version 25 of Pale Moon saw major changes but with 25.1 the extensions I rely on seem to be working.

i went from ff to chrome when they changed the interface. frankly, other than a few glitches and bugbears, i'm happy enough.

i did look at pale moon, and am tempted to try it, but at the end of the day, a browser is really just a browser....
