XDCAM audio dropouts in Vegas Pro 9.0a

Well, I just found a showstopper bug for me in Vegas Pro 9.0a.

I'm editing XDCAM SD (DVCAM) MXF files. I have clips that are one to two hours long. I discovered that with any of the clips, I will lose a full 15 frames of audio (one GOP) at the following places: 08:55:03, 26:35:10, 44:15:38, and probably others at the same interval multiples.

The audio is gone both in terms of actual sound and in terms of waveform at those points. There may be a slight video glitch there as well, but I couldn't tell since my footage available to test was a talking head without much movement. But I can say in general the video part wasn't missing or anything like that.

I tried this with multiple clips and the dropouts are at the exact same spots.

I verified that rendering out those spots showed the audio dropouts.

I tested the same original clips in the Sony XDCAM Viewer and more importantly in Vegas Pro 8.0c, and there was NO missing audio in those spots.

I haven't been able to reproduce this with XDCAM HD MXF clips, only with XDCAM SD (DVCAM) MXF clips.

This is VERY similar to a problem that was in Vegas Pro 8.0c, till a couple replacement dlls were provided for people that needed them.

I will be reporting this to SCS, I hope they can again provide a patch to fix it ASAP, as they did with Vegas Pro 8.0c.

One correction, I shouldn't have mentioned GOP, since this is DVCAM mode, there's no GOP, of course. But it is a 15 frame audio dropout, as stated.

"XDCAM SD (DVCAM) MXF files"

This is an oxymoron and then some.

What camera are you using?

At a guess one of the F300 series, XDCAM Optical, not EX.

Sony, unlike others, allows XDCAM HD users to record in SD on the cameras and decks if they need to for some reason. I have a ton of dvcam 25mb on XDCAM discs.

Not being a mind reader, this is why we are encouraged, time after time, to include ALL pertinent in our posts. We've also been asked by SCS to proved our "System Specs" in our profiles, which far too many have elected to omit.

What did he leave out, XDCAM records DVCAM, to optical disk.
I suspect you'd assumed he was talking about XDCAM EX. The confusion is understandable though, having a system called XDCAM that goes from DVCAM to HD 4:2:2 is kind of going to cause confusion, especially when they change the wrapper from MXF to mp4, and still call it XDCAM!

As for systems specs, all I can say is "Which one of my systems?"

"As for systems specs, all I can say is "Which one of my systems?"

We should all be plagued with such a conundrum!

I assure you, no oxymoron in what I stated.

That is what it is called, blame Sony for how it is named. I use the Sony PDW-F335. It's an XDCAM HD camcorder. It can record in either HD, which is 4:2:0 MXF. Or it can record in XDCAM SD, in the DVCAM MXF mode as opposed to the IMX MXF mode available on the older XDCAM SD-only camcorders.

Because this is MXF, it shouldn't be confused with XDCAM EX, which is MP4 wrapped.
