"Great News... The 1st Cameras are in the U.S. (having cleared
customes) and are now in Sony QC... (you won't believe this but Cosmic Rays can
actually damage pixels of the cameras while in shipping transit) and Sony USA
QC's a High percentage of the cameras when they arrive...

To me, QC means Québec.
To you ?

QC=quality control

Yes, the cameras are checked out in the Sony Park Ridge (or nearby) facilities.

Nothing unique to the EX1, all cameras are at risk although the bigger the sensor the higher the risk. One thing to consider if importing a camera from overseas yourself.
Possibly the risk is higher in flights that use the north polar route e.g. Japan to USA.

Yes to me and on reflection it read worse than it is. Cosmic rays in transit meaning 33000 feet up in a plane.. My initial reaction was what does that mean if you use it outdoors.. Still I imagine Sony QC will be just as good worldwide.. They are known for that..

Can this be real? When I when on an airplane last time a photographer loaded in 2 x F355 in the cabin and we were are 10.000 m according to the display. Or is it just EX1?

"Possibly the risk is higher in flights that use the north polar route e.g. Japan to USA"

Is not that all Europe-USA routes?

Every video camera can have this happen to it. It's not terribly common but it certainly has happened and more than once.

"Is not that all Europe-USA routes?"
...same thing comes to mind, Per1...
But, when a cameraman takes the plane with his camera, it means he's also risking the first hour(s) of shoot by carrying the cam on board (he'd have to turn back and rent one locally if any problem occured)?
Spooky...

The EX1 is CMOS not CCD, is it not?

CDD is prone “Cosmic Rays” damage along with other pixels problems.

CMOS should not have the same exposure reactions to Cosmic Rays & heat etc.
