To Sony's credit, they've stuck with those "L" series batteries for a long time (for the prosumer cams at least). Whether it be camcorders, lights or even hard drives, Sony's kept with the "L" series when they could've easily had different batteries for each. So they've hardly been sticking it to us over the years in that regard.
I have about 10 of those puppies, some going back 4 years, and they still retain their full capacity. So we've actually saved money by not having to constantly buy new batteries because they died, like those awful NiCads.
I think this new battery thing is in line with where Sony have been going of late. Every second camera seems to use yet another battery and charger type. Probably not that bad unless you have lots of different Sony video and still cameras.
Problem is, for us at least, the battery issue was one thing that kept us exclusively Sony but that's no longer a bullet point in their favour.
Used to be you could just walk into any Best Buy or CC and pick up a battery or two that would fit a dozen or so Sony cameras or camcorders. Now, it is the other way around. A different battery for every camera is DEFINITELY not a bullet point in Sony's favor.
Has anyone ever adapted an M series battery to an L series device or vice versa?
It seems to me that a mechanical adapter plate may be all that is needed.
Does anyone know of such a beast?

Oh my. I already have different Sony batteries for my V1, A1, and HC3. Now if I get this camera, which I have been pondering but will wait for various reviews when it becomes available, I will have to get yet another set? Not a deal breaker but definitely annoying. Derek
