There are lots of XLR adapters available. I don't use any, but I've heard the name "Beachtek" often. Try the search function on this board--it works great.

Also try the search function with the word "Siris" to see a discussion about teleprompter software that works on any laptop. Make sure you search back one year.

Sirus Teleprompter is $20.
You might want to read this article.

I have a Sign Video XLR Pro that I have used for years. It works very well.

Try Prompter People http://www.prompterpeople.com/products. We use the DV-11. It's great!

Also, I highly recommend DVcreators' prompter software http://dvcreators.net:80/dvcprompt/.

XLR:

I used http://beachtek.com/dxa6a.htmlbeachtek[/link] box and was
very happy with it. Make sure to put a 1" strip of gaffers tape over the 1/8" plug
to keep if from turning during recording. (reduces chance of noise)

Boom Mic:

Audio Technica has good shotguns for price. http://www.audio-technica.com/cms/wired_mics/9aeff7bd1ee954dc/index.htmlAT897[/link] around $300 US.
Don't go with sub $200 you will not be happy and spend your money again
later.

Boom pole:

Made mine. See http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/forums/ShowMessage.asp?ForumID=4&MessageID=475093previous post[/link] from me if you are somewhat handy with tools.
I would invest in a good pair of headphones for your boom operator to listen.
Moving the pole will make a little amount of noise and direction they are pointing
at talent will be obvious as night and day..
