A week or so ago I posted some questions regarding problems I had running Vegas on my newly upgraded Windows XP system. Yet after several helpful comments and ensuring all my drivers/software/etc were up to date and operating correctly, and all unnecesary services were disabled, Vegas simply can not record audio without stuttering under XP. I've ultimately had to reinstall Win98 and everything is fine again. It's a shame because XP really is so much more stable than 98.
One particular comment from someone at SF pointed to the apparent culprit, the display. When I switch off waveform drawing as I record a track, OR if I minimize the window while recording, OR even if I cover various sections of the display (faders, timecode clock, other tracks) with other open windows, recording works fine. None of these options are really very practical to be doing so I would like to request that SF provide us another option in the future which does the opposite of what they offer now: Instead of turning off the waveform drawing of the track being recorded, how about turning off basically everything else except that track! No faders, no timecode clock, no other track waveforms. For me, being able to immediately view whether the waveform recorded properly is most important.
And if anyone else out there gets Vegas running smoothly on their Sony Vaio notebook with XP, please post how you did it!! Thanks.
