Try changing the FourCC code to something else and then try it again in Vegas.

Ok - now - just how do I do that? - I got nearly no clue when it comes to codecs and switching between settings on them. :)

OK - it plays in Windows Media Player, VLC player, and not in Vegas - don't know what I should change the FourCC code to, only Xvid Code I can find is what it was already. Any thoughts?

the problem I found - was that what it was a bastardized version of xvid, and not really legit.

I used virtualdub to render out the video and audio separately.

Anyway - hope that helps

As far as I know Vegas seems(only seems) not to support Xvid files, but as it's been suggested, you can use Nic's FourCC Changer (a small wonder that comes along with Xvid - go to Start, all programs, Xvid and on the small menu you'll spot it) and change the tag from Xvid to Divx. :P
About Xvid: you can get the real thing at www.videohelp.com - there's a menu at the top of the page, search for the Xvid Codec at TOOLS.
