Hi Grazie my daughter is over there visiting a friend or more, that's a police officer in Portsmouth and I guess it's past her bed time there huh. Sleep tight.

The last time I did something for more then a couple hours was in '96. Played a game of Warcraft 2 for 12 hours straight with some friends in their garrage.

It's the Edit-A-Thon! The one who can edit the longest wins.... Winter! YEAH!

I think the most tireing project I had was a 5 minute video recap after shooting for 2 days then editing through the night to be ready to show the next morning for the final presentation. I stated at 10:00 importing the last days video and finished about 7:30am. Just in time.

Man was I tired after that one.

Arks00 - yeah! Nearly got the sucker beaten to a pulp! - Ho, it's been nasty, nasty, nasty . . . . .. learnt TONS and TONS about V4.

We gotta get these SONYs sorted out on the "Show Replaced Clip Name In TImeline" option. I've replaced stuff and see that this isn't the case - the naming thing - yeah? - I really do want this made available. Seems silly it not being there. Video gets replaced; Audio gets rebuilt; the new name is in the Media Pool or Bin - but the new name - nope! It's lost its way to the T/L . . . . odd!

Yer see, having the name show means the difference between using the same t/l setup, replacing with "other" footage AND knowing that it's there and NOT! - Which, would make me not use this function in a far sexier way . . . . . AND I'M NOT sounding like Mr ZG here! - By all that's Missing Persons, . . .erm where has he gone . . ooeer :{

kentwolf - ho no, you aint alone. . . . . read our Forum.

We are very obsessive people - good obsessive; compulsive; creative; ingenious; innovative; thoughtful; persistent; thorough; meticulous; painstaking; . . . . . and generally looking for better ways of doing things and getting “THAT” sequence on the money. Sometimes this does come automatically – mostly it is hard, hard, hard work . . . . was it ever thus with anything worthwhile. . . I suppose “good” to excellent editors have this “fall” into their laps . . . but mostly this has been as a result of years and years of experience . . . . this Forum – and why I truly love it – provides me with not only a place I can celebrate what I’ve discovered about V4 and the inherent “How the heck do I do this!?” type of post, but also an opportunity to read others posts and allow me to be reassured that my frustrations concerning a particular aspect of this s/w is too shared by others . . it doesn’t get any better than that . . . I feel that I use this Forum as a type of coffee lounge of a major “creatives” type building – advertising, film establishment, research lab or school/university – a place to share and compare. And all of this without any, well mostly, prejudicial or negative responses.

I’ve just started my pro career, using my XM2 and V4 as my preferred means of production. I know there is and will be more and more requests for video content for all sorts of businesses, both private and the public sector. This has now seen the options for video content to burgeon as a real possibility, what with the Internet finally coming of age. Having come from the Arts and arts administration, where I had some major wins for funding and sponsorship raising, these activity will/is providing me with potential areas to explore. Yes, this last year I have been cutting – sorry for the pun! – my teeth working with an event/wedding videographer. The “Wedding” format is mostly a known animal – arrivals; ceremony; reception; cutting the cake; speeches . . first dance etc etc etc. This has been an excellent “training” ground for me. I’ll still keep this side of things going – hopefully! – Now wild and woolly Event formats are something else. One has to film and then dig deep in the editing process to “bring” out the impressions; impact and feel of that event. I recently did this piece of filming, why? Because I wanted to. Purely a selfish and non-directed reason. I knew there would be some stonkingly [ most excellent! ] good images availably. I wasn’t disappointed. But all of this was non-client directed, let alone audience-centric. I took a “flyer”, a chance and didn’t even think of it would go any further. I was then approach by one of the organisers. So good things do happen. My point is this. Without the XM2 and V4 I would never have felt confident about producing more than an average product – ho, the client has yet to see it though . . . . – But with these 2 items - cammie and V4 - in my grasp, it is now up to me to produce the goods – Hence the willingness to stay up very late and get up very early to do my best.

kentwolf , I do realise I’ve strayed from your original response, “I thought I was the only . . .” but I think not.

There are reasons why we do this “stuff”. We should all applaud each other, at whatever level we are presently at, and share ‘n compare our strengths and weaknesses. After all this is a very fine way to spend out lives. Making something beautiful or thought provoking or just for the hell of it, it doesn’t get any better than that! The World has always, and now more than ever before needed creatives. kentwolf, if you allow me, I place you amongst this “happy-breed”!

My recent problem is that I’ve spent the best part of 3 weeks digging this video out of my filming I shot. That’s 3 weeks of not going about London with my XM2 – I’ve really missed it . . .

Anyways enough from me . . well, for the moment,

Grazie

Interesting Grazie.

One thing occurs - if you have expertise and experience in obtaining funding, this could stand you in very good stead in the video world.

A lot of my projects happen because a client has applied for funding for a video and/or cd rom project.
Often they mention other things they'd like to do, depending on finding funding....

I always leave this side to them, but if you have the ability to help potential clients put together submissions, that would make you even more desirable!!

Moi? Desirable ? . oh yes! Apart from the biggies I've done . . I've also been known to to raise £500 within 1 hour, from being told. For an arts org that needed some printing being done . . ooooo . . I loved that one! It was an am-pro local brass band - that was good. I love what I do and the people I worked/work with.

I also belong to a UK and world wide arts and business org that makes connections . . .

Let's talk . . you gotta my email . . .

No Promises - Just Fun!

So how are things in the UK?

We just got back to Oz after a few weeks driving around England. Didn't get to see as much of it as I would have liked but enough to be pretty interesting. Must say the weather was very kind to us, actually got sunburnt in London!

Took the holiday as a side trip on the way back from Amsterdam where we went to IBC. Not really much to report, SoFo / Sony were spectaculalry not there. Sony had nothing new to offer, Apple managed to generate a lot of yawns and the only thing happening big time was Premier Pro.

Didn't really have much time to look at it apart from a demo of Audition and its surround capabilities. Looked impressive at first, has proper surround metering and includes some very good noise removal tools. Basically most of it is just catchup to VV with a bit of a leap frog.

Did have a good look at Sonic's DVD Producer and bought back a trial copy. Looks pretty good but don't have the pricing as yet. Liked the way it makes Open DVD standard DVDs which let you recover and edit the assets on the DVD.

Anyways - Anytime yous or any other Ozites wish to partake over a beer up here ion London . . . AND you use V4 . . ..

G'day!

Grazie,
pretty please don't be offended, there was several people I really should have tried to catch up with in the UK and one in Holland but the whole trip was a bit of a whirlwind.

I think our greatest achievement was negotiating London traffic to get our EasyCar back to where we hired it from. Let me tell you I was shiting myself seriously over this from the moment the minicab driver who took us there when we picked the car up, admitted he wasn't sure how to get there and that was after he found it in the street directory.
