Yet another OT: Grammy & *gasp* the Web

I dunno 'bout you all but I find this very cool - Maria Schneider just won a Grammy - for a CD that was not sold in any store!!! She only had the CD's online. Now how cool is that?

We talk about things costing so much and why - yet here is someone who bypassed almost evryone and still won a Grammy.

"This record cost $87,000 to make. I already made my money back," she said. "I'm not splitting the profits with the distributor, the record store and the record company. It's working so well for me"

for the 'full' story.

I agree: I hope this is the future. Distributors never added much value, in my opinion.

An artists, a recording studio (with good engineers), a marketing person or two, and the web ... if that's the future, I like it.

My best friend was selling his CD through CD Baby.com and then CD Baby did a deal with Tower Record and so now Gary’s CD is available at towerrecords.com Some progressive rock stations in Europe are even playing it. How cool is that? The Internet is the “great equalizer”.

Similar story w/Bill Miller. His record was barely available this past year, but he won the Grammy in our category tonight. I wish we'd have walked w/it, but it went to a great guy, hard worker, and one who's used the web very, very intelligently.
This IS the future of music, just like this forum though, it's hard to get noticed above all the noise out there.
