Yikes...some help here SF or anybody?

Hi,

Just noticed a big problem I believe I've come across before.

I have SF5.0d and Vegas 2.0h.

I have most projects set for 24-bit\44.1 in Vegas....
but when I go to open any one of my recorded tracks via "open copy in sound forge" or "open in sound forge" I get this error:

"an error occured loading the file. he specified file contains unsupported bits per sample size"

I think there was a quick fix, but I forgot what it was...something to edit to solve all of this.

Can anybody tell me how to fix this again?

Right now the only way I can edit newly recorded 24-bit\44.1 files in SF5 as 24-bit files is to render the track (shouldn't have to do this).
I rarely edit files offline for many of my projects...so I just ran into it now.

I have dual delta 1010s on w98se btw.

thanks,
joed

Check your 1010's. Make sure the "lock sample rate" option is unchecked. The soundcard may be set to only accept a specific sample rate...different than what you have Vegas set to. I have a 1010, and I've had the same problem.

No, all is fine with the sample rates...it's not that.

A user named "pops" here also received the fix I'm looking for (via email) from PETER HALLER on this.

It was one of those special cases, where Peter suggested changing something (vegas config file???...somehting like that) which solved the problems.

Peter??? anybody?

thanks,
Joe

Hello,

Did you try doing a forum search for POPS?

See ya, Rockit

Yes, I tried to search the fix for this problem and "pops" messages.
I found the messages pertaining to this exact issue...but no luck finding the actual fix info itself (and there IS one...just stupid me must have deleted the mail from Peter Haller. Damn!!)

anyway, I sent an email to Peter Haller and he (strangly) replied "can't repro...please provide an audio file example of this".

Seems he didn't understand the question, and thinks this is something else...but I once got an email from him with a fix that worked perfect and quickly. Hope he re-reads this and sends the info he once sent me a while back. He must have misunderstood the problem.

can anybody here confirm peter hallers email address?

If anybody knows, please let me know,

thanks,
Joe

send the specifics to vegas@sonicfoundry.com

Ok, I think I know what you are refering to now....

There is an internal pref that tells Vegas to force 24 bit Packed mode when recording. This is done through internal prefs.

I will send you an email on this.

Peter

Yes...that's probably it (I lost the last mail on this you sent)

Did you email me at jodoria@home.com yet?
I don't see it, can you send it again?

thanks,
Joe
