YouTube "Edit Lists" Error on My VegasPro Video?

KRyan wrote on 6/11/2010, 3:21 AM
I just got the strangest error trying to upload the video I produced in Vegas to YouTube. It said: The video you uploaded has edit lists. There is a possibility of Audio/Video sync issues to occur."

Then it also mentioned something like having the index at the end?

What causes this?

Thanks.

Ken

Youtube's obscure messages are the result of them trying to save server time processing the video. They would prefer streaming-ready video with no extra information in the file. The average uploader isn't going to have a clue what these ill-conceived messages mean.

Ditto what musicvid said. As a Top Contributor to their Help Forum (ebbixx) with some limited access to YouTube staff, I have still not heard a clear definition from them of exactly what they mean by "edit lists." Rendering without project markers embedded in an MP4 using either of the main profiles does not eliminate this warning message. For now, unless you are getting serious audio sync issues in the uploads that generate these warnings, I'd have to say the best thing for the moment would be to ignore the message.

With the "index at end" message you may want to "flatten" your renders to a FastStart compatible form with available utilities. However, in some cases doing this seems to have triggered worse audio sync issues, so you might just want to stick to what's been working for you.

Some free utilities that may help include:

MP4FastStart @ http://www.datagoround.com/lab/ (I've had issues with this one, and beware, it overwrites whatever file you point it at, so be sure to only use it on copies of renders, not the originals)

MP4Patch @ http://www.aoamedia.com/mp4patch.htm
