The engineer in question was Douglas Spotted Eagle, known hereabouts as SPOT.

You can read his original description of this project (from which the article you referred to appears to have been abstraced by M-Audio, presumably with SPOT's permission), along with extracts from a couple of the Ike Willis tracks in question, at http://www.spottedeagle.com/ikewillis2.htm

Sorry guys I'm french and did not understand the article fully.

Pipe:

What are you saying exactly? Are you implying that SPOT is not an engineer?!

I find it hard to believe someone so totally close minded, my way or the highway, arrogant, and such a blowhard, who would stop progress at every turn possible, could let enough of the inferior outside world in to a point of creating with it

but I could be very wrong, the flute thing actually sounded cool

Pipe, you must know him on a personal level to be able to say those things, right?
I hope YOU'RE not so narrow-minded as to pass judgement based on what you've heard/read about the man.

Myst, only from conversations between us, and Im not the only one who saw it either, so I dont see what the surprise is.

MacMoney, YOU gotta ask me? Ok I must be nuts

either
a: people are suffering from selective memory loss, or
b: DSE was just having a really bad month or so, or
c: I have a really warped way of looking at the world/or I am totally NUTS

I know you guys are all voting c

sorry for saying anything
MacMoney wrote on 12/7/2002, 11:39 PM
Yes,
I know what you are referring to and he is in titled to his option.
Remember I was the one who asked what the hell he was smoking? until I found out who I was talking to, and I felt like crap and apologized. I don't agree about that subject but he IS an Engineer. Aaron you can say what ever you like, I was surprised you would post something like that. No hard feelings here.

yeah yeah, Im a putz, that guy just rubs me the wrong way,BIG time, and I'd rather live with an army of rednrolls. But he IS an engineer

Can't we just be happy to see that Vegas and Soundforge are used to master commercial CDs ?

I don't mind who the guy is, I'm just happy that the program I use and love is used and love by "pro" people (call them what you want). I'm quite happy to see SF progs in place of "Protools" or Nuendo.

P.S. Notice in the article how they skipped the "Video" part of the title :)

You can also notice that m-audio lies, on the newsletter which is almost the same text than on the Ike Willis page, they say they monitored with M-audio Sp5b speakers, but on the Ike Willis site they say they used Events... They just swapped Events for SP5B... not to cool..

Pipeline,

I have never gotten into this kind of discussion before but here goes. Who really cares what you think of "Spot". I support your right to have an opinion but I don't think it is relavent to this topic.

How many artists, musicians, engineers, etc at the professional level don't think that their way is the best way. They obviously know what they are doing or they wouldn't have the success that they have.

I realize that my post is actually off topic but why can't people put principles before personalities and get on with helping each other solve the technical proglems that this group was designed to address. I always wonder why people can't just agree to disagree and get on with their lives.

Someone once said, "Never judge a man until you have walked a mile in his shoes. That way you are a mile away and you have his shoes."

Respectfully,

Steve

When I am really bothered by someone, if I look at myself, I end up seeing some of the same qualities in me. I can't change someone else's behavior but sometimes I can change mine.
