The "Noise Reduction" plugin works differently in VEGAS than it does in SOUND FORGE.
- Load an audio file onto the timeline in VEGAS Pro.
- Look for a section of the file containing nothing but the noise you want to remove. (Tape recordings, for example, should have a short pre-roll at the beginning with nothing but hiss in them.)
- Drag a loop region around this section of the audio file. We recommend using a loop region that is at least 1 second long and not much longer than 5 seconds.
- Click the green "Track FX" button in the track header to open the Audio Track FX window.
- In the Audio Track FX window, click the "Plug-In Chain" button in the upper right-hand corner to open the Plug-In Chooser window.
- Remove the currently selected plugins. After removing the plugins, find the "Noise Reduction" plugin in the preview window on the right and click "Add" followed by "OK".
- You should now see the Noise Reduction window. In this window, towards the bottom, there is a "Capture Noise Print" checkbox.
- Place a check mark in the "Capture Noise Print" box. Next to this is the option "Automatic Capture Timeout". You can use this option if you don't have an area selected.
- Click the Play button in the transport controls in VEGAS. Playback will start with the Noise Reduction plugin enabled. You should now hear less noise in the audio. To hear exactly what you are removing, enable "Keep residual output" to play only what is being filtered out of the audio. You can continue to adjust the plugin settings during playback to get the exact results you want.
