When the program opens, it checks to see if you have a working recording/playback device installed on your machine. If you do not, the program automatically disables the recording and/or playback options.

• If you are certain that you have a working sound card installed in your computer, go to "Options" > "Preferences" > "Audio" or "Audio Device" in the program. 
• Check the playback and recording dropdown lists. 

By default, the program uses the "Wave Mapper" (or "Sound Mapper") to automatically select a suitable device to use. If the playback or recording device is set to "None", the program is unable to run the Wave Mapper.
