fast VP15 rendering at last....
Speaking of faster render times, has anyone noticed slow renders when using Vegas Titles and Text? Typically, shorter (less than 5 minutes) videos with some text will render extremely quickly (especially to mp4 using NVENC with my GTX1080). By quickly, I mean 2-4 times faster than real-time. But a couple projects that are longer (~30 minutes) and use lots of text are incredibly slow to render. I am talking about 3 hours to render a 30 minute video. All source material is 1080/30p and I am rendering to 1080/30p (ok, actually 1080/29.97p). Almost like there is a memory leak that gets worse with longer render times. Any ideas? Andrew

VEGAS Pro 16 Update 4 (build 361) - General Discussion
Hi Everyone, I found a temporary solution to my serious editing/playback issue with V16 build 361. I am creating a 30 minute video. At about the 10 minute point, it started having serious playback issues where it would look like it is trying desperately to render the next frame (growing line of dots next to the frame number in the preview window) and then it would lock up. Everything was fine up to this point and I am mostly using generated text on a static background in a 1080/30p project. A very, very simple project. I figured the last few lines of text I added to the project media maxed something out and started crashing things. I tried all sorts of playback settings, all the way down to draft/quarter, but the same thing would happen. SOLUTION: I set dynamic RAM ram to ZERO and turned off my GPU. Preview works fine for now (just like in previous version of Vegas). I am not sure if this has just bought me some time until I max something out again or if it is just an issue with the latest NVIDIA drivers.... who knows. At least I get to meet my deadline for this video. I really don't think the Dynamic RAM preview was the issue. I think there is an issue with my Nvidia 1080 driver and Vegas working together. Administrator error?!
I got this for the first time today. Used DVDA 6 for years and had an issue with it, so I installed DVDA 7 today and also got this error. It didn't seem to affect anything (that I can tell).

NAB 2017
I know it is expensive to attend as a vendor, but it would really show folks that MAGIX came to play in the professional world. The only mention of MAGIX I found at NAB 2017 is a session on "other" NLE platforms. Hopefully many will attend and it could give MAGIX some good exposure. Since everyone has 4K cameras built into their phones, perhaps they are focused on the mass market?

90° Video Workflow?
We tried to do this for some digital signage video we were producing and ended up just creating a session at 1080x1920 as it worked correctly for us. Have not tried with V14 though, this was with V13 and Sony AVC.

Project crashes V14 at 65% loaded - found a work around
Thanks Eric. Any idea why the rights allocation would change from one day to the next if nothing else was done to the machine?

4k?
I think that is the max possible for now. I just tried to render out a 4K project at 8K (7680 x 4320) and although I could put in those dimensions and successfully render - the resulting file was only 4096x2160. I'm sure someone will complain about this in 3, 2, 1...

.MTS files no loger work in V13 after installing V14?!
Same here Nick. From Vegas 7 all the way up to 13, never an issue. Not sure what happened with the .mts files all of a sudden. The only change I made was installing v14...but then again it could have been a windows update too (but then more folks would have been having the issue). It will remain a mystery for now. Andrew

Vegas Stops Responding when searching the Help section
I also manually copy my current project file to another physical drive at the end of each day. Paranoid much? I am with you Nick! I do all my work on a fast internal raid, but back the entire project up to an external drive at the end of each day (sometimes we don't sleep, so I do it about every 24 hours).

Vegas Stops Responding when searching the Help section
Thanks Set, I also save different versions so I always have something to go back to. I have also renamed the automatically generated backup file in thepast to save the day. I noticed that the help area will get stuck, but I can go back to the main vegas window and keep working. I just hate to leave the other window open and trying to do omething that takes resources away from my main vegas application. It's funny, I don;t think I have even looked at the 'help' area since vegas 7 or 8, so it might have been broken for a while (lik NormanPCN mentioned).

MP4 file hangs V14 and now looks corrupt in V13
Hi Guys, I am recording on a tricaster (model 460AE2) and yes, I still have the original file. After running it through Adobe Media Encoder I was able to use the resulting MP4 for my editing. Also, yes, it plays just fine in both VLC and Windows Media Player. Here is the mediainfo for the file in question - I notice that it is interlaced and should be 60i. Could that be the issue? Bye Sony, Hi Magix !
Hopefully they will continue to develop the application and add new functionality (and stability) like Adobe has done with Macromedia - but WITHOUT the subscription plan. Although we now shooting exclusively in 4K, we are still having great success with Vegas 13. I do have a feeling we will need to get familiar with Catalyst just in case we need to jump ship down the road. ...and I have to also add my gratitude to the forum leaders and contributors for providing the absolute BEST support system I have ever seen. (with the AVID Pro-Tools community a close second) So have we figured out where to start posting over at MAGIX to let them know how many rabid/loyal users they are inheriting? Andrew

We tend to save up a bit longer and buy the best quality we can. It let's us hold on to our gear for much longer. Better long term investment.

As always John, you are the voice of reason! ;) It will be interesting to see how things roll out with the new 10-core consumer chips coming soon. I am still leaning towards a couple of high clock-rate XEONs since I am trying to build a system that will work with well for our Vegas work AND Pro Tools, After Effects, etc. Of course, as I price a system that will work with everything, I quickly realize it is probably cheaper to have one system for Vegas and another one (or two!) for everything else. That would also take care of our challenges of trying to render out 3 videos while editing another simultaneously. The nice thing about technology though, is if you don't like your options today, just wait until next week. Randini, Congratz on the performance improvement! I wonder if the double rendering speed is because you are now running a chip with double the clock speed. I would love to see a comparison with a fast XEON chip - I know none are up to 4+Ghz, but at least something around 3.7 or so. Has anyone heard of overclocking the XEON chips? I thought I read about a motherboard that would allow you some flexibility, but it might just be wishful thinking.

Randini, I am looking at getting a similar system to your but with the E5-2667 v3 chips @3.2Ghz (only 8 core vs. your 16 per chip). I am very interested to find out what you discover as you try to tweak Vegas to get the best performance. Our current system (ASUS Laptop running i7-4200HQ @2.4Ghz) is usable but not optimal. We have rendered up to 3 videos at once using it, but I am eager to see how this would work on a system like yours. Perhaps a single video will not be a drastic difference, but being able to render one video (or more) while editing another with no loss of performance would be nice! Keep us posted as to your results. Good luck! How many cores are beneficial?
Astar, I was told by another Vegas user that Vegas would not take advantage of anything over 8 cores during rendering. It might have just been a limitation of his system. Of course, I wanted to confirm this with the experts here in the forum! I know it depends on what codec you are using, but without any system other than our few i7 machines, it is hard to tell what Vegas will really take advantage of. What chips are in your HP? Andrew

Thanks astar, Excellent info. I am up to speed with most of this, but heard that the M2 storage (while lightning fast) get a bit too hot and might not be reliable long term at this point. (At least the current crop of drives). I also looked at the intel 750 PCIe drive and was told they might cause the machine to boot a bit slower, but once booted up, they are super quick. I looked at the 400GB drive, but feel that will be too small for my OS drive. The 1.4TB drive is pricey, but if I combined my OS and Application drive, it might make sense. I am working with Puget Systems to build this PC. I built my last one and it lasted me many years of basically 20/7 usage, (even with a RAID0 work drive), but we want something that is reliable with a multiyear warrantee for business. Puget Systems seem very knowledgeable regarding Vegas (and other apps I will use - Adobe Suite, HitFilm, etc), but I do like to get the viewpoint of actual Vegas users with silimar systems. You know, those of us with real-world experience. So all other things being equal (lots of fast DDR4 ram, AMD R9 Fury X, SSD OS Drive, Raid 10 SSD work drive, it seems the best option is a high GHz processor with a bunch of cores, but am I hearing that anything over 8 cores is a waste? I am really tempted to go with a couple of Intel Xeon E5-2687W v3 @ 3.10GHz (10 core) or Intel Xeon E5-2667 v3 @ 3.20GHz (8 core), but if Vegas maxes out at 8 cores, then why bother with 2 chips and not just go with a single overclocked i7 with 8 cores? …and what do you think of the ASUS Z10PE-D8 WS motherboard? It looks like the D16 version of this board allows for XEON overclocking? ah...decisions, decisions. I am really interested to hear from anyone with a dual chip system that is showing decent utilization and if you are showing all cores being used. I don't need to see 100%, but I would imagine a 20 core 3.10Ghz system at 80% utilization would be pretty darn nice. Time is money, so if we can render faster and possible render while editing another project without performance loss, that is ideal! Thanks everyone for the great input!!! Andrew

It is hard enough to find a fellow Vegas user (outside of this forum) and even more difficult to find one using a dual Xeon system. How many cores are in your Z820? So other than RAID options and going with an ATI card (thank you for this info), I'm still not sure about core count making a difference with Vegas. Has any one ever checked if Vegas will really use all cores when rendering? If it maxes out at 6 or 8, it probably makes more sense to simply go with a fast i7 system. Thoughts?

NewBlue Stabilizer on Sale Today
For some reason I thought Mercalli was the plug in included with a previous version of Vegas. It was quick and totally functional. When the stabilizer changed to its current form in Vegas I purchased Mercalli and have been very happy since. Andrew

Adding Markers while recording
Excellent Suggestion! I will give that one a try. I actually have a great Tascam 6-track MP3 recorder that allows me to add markers while it is recording. Unfortunately, Vegas doesn't seem to read those markers, although audition does. I would just rather keep everything in one program is possible...I know, I'm a dreamer! Andrew
