(FAQ) Why won't VEGAS open my file correctly? Codecs, Converters etc.

I purchased Sony Vegas Movie studio 11 a number of years ago. I used it to process my Drift HD movies, I bought the camera sometime around 2012. I eventually "upgraded" to movie studio14 platinum. I do not think there is anything platinum about it. I have had trouble using the software, loading files and rendering. The sony software worked and was easier to use. Movie studio 14 will not open files from that old drift camera. I gave up for a few years but now I have a HOT computer (ryzen 7, 2070 nvidia....) It STILL will not load the drift camera videos I used to edit all the time with Sony movie studio 11. Studio 14 was supposed to be an UPGRADE. OK, so I found the FAQ ((FAQ) Why won't VEGAS open my file correctly? Codecs, Converters etc.) on why files will not load. Not much help there except to get a third party file converter. I hope I can figure this out without loosing video resolution the drift files are 1920x1080 30fps. I am not happy about this. Looks like a lot of experimentation and wasted time. Sony Catalyst Browser was recommended, but is it for files from sony devices only? I guess I will find out after installing. And will it take my 1920x1080 and turn it into something else? TBD....
