Blast from the past! (Vegas 12 Window problem)
OK, problem sol-ved (in my best inspector Clouseau voice). I went back to Win 95 basics and Deleted the graphics card in device manager and let Win 10 reinstall it. That sorted it. Thanks to you all for taking the time to offer advice.

Yes J-V, but there are 2 workspaces - you can see 2 x zoom tools. Also look at the File/edit/view et menus etc on the top left of the Vegas screen. Part of the wording is missing.

OK, so all suggestions tried. I rolled the display drivers back to last update (2016!) Did another clean install as Administrator and using Win 7 compatibility mode, but no success. I've attached a video showing the problem. Not great quality as done using a Remote connection. Also note the oddness of the 'File, Edit, View, menu at top left. http://vimeo.com/377531528

Thanks to all for your suggestions. Should have mentioned that I did install as administrator and also used the Windows compatibility tool. This PC is my old editing rig that I passed on to my Dad when I updated mine about 3 years ago. I left all the software on it and Vegas 12 was working perfectly then. He used it briefly then but has had no reason to since. So my money is on either a Windows update, and/or a display driver as suggested above. When I was using it to make a living, I kept this PC off line and update free but Dad is using it as a general workhorse so can't do that. I'll delve into rolling back the display drivers and Win10 updates the next time I'm seeing him, but it may be too late now (if it's a 2 year old update for instance). I'll report back here afterwards. Thanks again all!

Just curious...why would you want an interview to not be mono? What advantage is there using stereo?

Which is why confirming licence details on startup once in a while as per TMPGEnc is the most sensible option. Doing it randomly in the middle of you working on a project is plain daft.

I've been using TMPGEnc products for a long time now. They all require periodic licence checking on startup. There is an option for "not now" if you're in a hurry. I admit that I found this a pain in the you know where at first, but I've gradually got used to it. It's quick and painless even though by default my editing PC is off-line. If Vegas 15 followed a similar pattern I would upgrade to it, but with the uncertainty shown above as to whether it's actually reliable (or capable of losing work!) if you're working with it off-line, not a chance. Magix need to step in and confirm one way or the other.

Vegas Pro always on top in display monitor
The only way I know to do this is with a 3rd party app, such as err...Always-on-top. So wondering if something nasty has installed on your system. You could always install that App, then see if you can then 'turn off' the effect. Also worth playing around with the right click on Taskbar menu. Glad it worked for you Joe. This at least tells you that you were doing things right, or the markers wouldn't have showed in the audio file either. May be one to send to Magix on a support ticket?

Hold down the shift/Ctrl keys when you click on preferences. (under options) The internal tab will appear. In the search box type markers. "Media markers in video file" will show as TRUE. Change it to FALSE and it'll look for them in the audio file instead. Bit of a long story why I needed to do that.....

No answers unfortunately, but I stayed with 5.2 for just these reasons - all of the following versions seem to have problems, without bringing anything new or desirable to the party. Sounds like you've done everything right. You could try changing the marker association to your audio file in the internal prefs?

I have a system (C) drive + 2 internal HDDs. 'Capture' and 'Render'. I render from one to the other. I also use USB3 (+some older USB2) external drives for archiving. For rendering something complex such as your project, I wouldn't consider anything else. Old school as I said previously. 😉

The fan noise is probably because it's working so hard. I've never used external HDD to render to or from, and never the system (C) drive. I am old school with that and render to/from internal HDDs. Never read/write to same disk either. This was always best practice. I'm prepared to be told I'm wrong on this though as external HDDs with USB 3 are obviously much faster now. Your external is USB 3?

The fact that it takes so long to render sounds like your PC may be struggling with it. Could you render out say half of the TL tracks involved, then the rest and then put those on a new TL and render that?

Splitting/Grouping issue in Sony Vegas Pro 13.0 - (PLEASE HELP ME!)
I've watched your video twice, but still don't understand what you want to do. As mentioned above, all looks normal to me. Do you want to split the audio separate from the video? If so, just turn off grouping (there's a button to toggle on the tool bar) select which part you want to cut/split, then hit 'S'. I suspect it's something different you're after though....

I don't always want the clip at the cursor Richard. That's why I find dragging more flexible and suits me better. This thread certainly shows how flexible Vegas is - for all it's faults.

General question on the trimmer
I'm +1 for the trimmer. I go through every clip (double click in explorer to load in trimmer) I+O where I want them, then drag onto TL where I want the clip. I find this fast and flexible. What this thread shows though, is that Vegas has more than one way to skin a cat. 😊

Zoom H1 noise removal?
Audacity is free, and makes a decent job of background noise reduction. I've used it to get rid of the noise from air conditioning units for instance. There are plenty of tutorials around for it. Do you use the internal mics on the H1? I got better results with an external mic when I used to use an H1.

Easiest way to ensure that doesn't happen is to right click each menu, create sub menu. That creates all the necessary links for you.

Undo multi-camera editing
Obviously, making a copy of the MC project before you start editing is the easiest method to get to the beginning if you want to do a complete re-edit, but it's still very easy to do that without copying. Just expand to multiple tracks (don't choose the muted tracks option) then go to the second event for each camera, right click 'select all to end'. Delete. Then just drag out the first clip/event to the end. All will still be in sync. About 30secs max.
