Gain -- Silly Question?
If you have an audio input, it is probably an adjustment for the sensitivity of the input. It might range from 'Line level' to 'Microphone level' or it may simply adjust a slight range of different types of external microphones only. I'm only guessing that it is for audio. Many audio mixers have gain controls that measure in db.

Audio hardware you use.
Phonic Helix Board 18 FireWire Phonic ASIO Used with an older Dell Latitude D630, Dual Core, Laptop with Windows XP and Vegas 8 for Multi-track remote recording Although the mixer is loaded with features, I only chose it for the number of inputs VS cost. The first 8 Channels have XLR or 1/4" TRS (and trim control) and then there are 8 more, some 1/4" TRS and some RCA Stereo line input channels. Can record up to 16 tracks, but have never needed to go beyond 10. The Phonic has surprisingly super-quiet inputs. The only cheesyness is the mixer pots and sliders, but I've never had any desire to use the mixer, as I'd rather mix using the Vegas timeline and effects plus certain favored VSTs.

How do I change the center point of pan/crop?
+1 DaveT2 No matter which words you want to use to describe it. I use 'Pan Crop' to "zoom" in and back out of an image or video for the highest quality I can achieve without extra effects or outside help. I have also used 'Pan Crop', to Crop & Pan a video too. And sometimes, I Crop & Pan while "zooming", using only Pan Crop, When viewing the results on a screen, it will look like "zooming", and that's the effect I'm trying to get. If that's not technically correct..... it will be, in the near future.

How do I change the center point of pan/crop?
This is how I do it, using Pan & Crop only. If you know the length of this "Zoom" event. Choose your frame from the drop-down, (like 16X9 or whichever) Now you can make the frame any size, by grabbing the edge and making a diffenent size, in relation to your jpg/png. Make your "widest view of the object on the first frame. Go to the last frame and shrink the frame to its closest view. If the object is not too close to the edge of its original jpg or png edge, it should "Zoom" in to where you want it. If the object is too close to the edge of its original jpg or png edge, you may have to mask the object. No need for track motion. I don't think you have to change anything. The inbetween frames, between 1st and last, will seemingly zoom in. But you may need to readjust some of the middle frames if the zoom "curves" in. If your object is centered in the original jpg/png, it should be a straight looking zoom. Hope I understood the original question and that I didn't forget any details. Here's one I forgot. You can drag the frame to where you need it., so you can center its last frame. So, you pretty much only need the 1st and last frame and the length of the event will fill in the rest..... unless it curves. Dang it, one more just in case it's not making sense. You must choose animate, so you can make keyframes to do this, in case it's not obvious Make your jpg/png the exact amount of frames or seconds in length. Widest view on 1st keyframe....closest view on last keyframe. whew.... I think that's it.

Vegas as a multi-track Audio Recording system ?
I used to and can still use an old Phonix 16 channel Firewire mixer. The mixer section was useless to me, as i was used to mixing within Vegas and preferred that. All I needed was the inputs and it had 8 XLR/TRS inputs with trim and 8 line TRS inputs. I never recorded more than 10 tracks at a time, but could have. If I plug headphones into the Phonix, there is no lag time. It somehow syncs everything up, when adding new tracks. ($379. when bought) It is a cheaply made mixer and don't know if they're for sale anymore, except used. But the inputs are super quiet and I get good recordings from it. After 6 years, I do have one XLR input channel that is problematic, but the rest seems to be good. I would record to a Dell latitude D630, dual-core laptop for remote recording. Just be sure to shut off extra junk, like the Internet search. I never see anybody raving about Phonix, so I wouldn't recommend the them unless you were super poor, but it works with Vegas, just fine. But almost any other brand is very expensive compared to the Phonix. If you have the money, it's probably worth investing in a more respectable, reliable brand. Firewire is the only way I'd advise multi-track audio recording.

OT-ish - Burning VIdeo DVD w/Windows Media Player
You could just get one of these VGA to RCA/S-video converters for $14.50 and a long RCA cable and just use his computer VGA output to his TV http://www.sainsonic.com/pc-to-tv-video-converter.html?___store=en&___store=en (copy & paste) or http://sewelldirect.com/pc-to-tv-adapter.asp?gclid=CLOMzfmm2bcCFc9FMgod9TcAcg $19.95 You may need an 1/8th inch jack to RCA adapter plug for the audio too. This way you could also use VLC media player and watch about anything;, because whatever he can see on his 19" computer screen will pretty much be the same on this TV. Unfortunately, he'll have to control it from the PC Probably not interested, but .... it's another option.

can Mainconcept mp4's be stitched together?
Thanks all. I'll have to look into which works best. I basically want to join individual songs, all made with the same exact render settings in Vegas as a main concept mp4, and was hoping I could edit each song, one at a time and then join them all together as I'm bound to notice imperfections and bad editing more closely if I do each song as a project. I'm hoping it'll play, without hiccups, at least for that first encode by ewetube. The source footage is old SD, horrid, shaky, dark video, uprezzed to 16x9, 720p within Vegas (I wish I could, but cant' afford BCC8) and I'm using every trick in my book to make the final edit interesting (wouldn't impress you real pros), but when I try to do the whole show as one large clip, I invariably miss little things or create new problems before that final render. I do want the final product to look seamless. I may try the HDV mpg2 way, if this doesn't work. I experimented with a couple and noticed the file size seemed to stay the same, even when I changed bit rates from 15,000,000 to 8,000,000 and I didn't understand that. btw, these were a huge file size compared to the mp4s, like maybe 10 times. I appreciate and thank you for all the suggestions!!

Help Needed! Render Problem
If you rendered an audio file, the last time you rendered, then you will only see the file types that you rendered last. You must select what you'd like to render to, first, before you can see other type files ie: if you made some mp3's or wavs, last time you rendered, then the render window is still set to those audio files and won't list video, so if you're going to render to mp4 or whatever, select the render source, and then the other files will be visible.

zoom into photo gets out of focus
The old way, from the dropdown, choose 16X9 or 4X3. There was about 4 or 5 options. And be sure aspect ratio is locked

How to make a DVD without saving to hard drive
Yes, DATA DVD. You can only put 4.38 GBs of clips on the 4.7 disc. (or less) If he can edit your footage, as is, that's all you gotta do. May take a few discs for lots of footage. Drag & Drop into Nero, or what ever and burn DATA DVD. Drag & Drop from disc, back to a computer to edit.

Sony AVC mp4 won't render in V7.0d only MC mp4
Not sure, but I thought some of the codecs are hidden in DVD-A installation. Also, Mainconcept mp4 should give good results, but if I remember right, all the templates in V7 don't use the MAIN profile, they use the BASELINE profile, which I believe is the cheesy profile. That's just from my bad memory, so don't hold me to it. But if the templates are all using Baseline profile, switch to the Main profile and 10 Million bps or 14 million bps should look good. I never render 1080, so I haven't tried that size yet. But 720p Mainconcept looks pretty good to me.

Down Rez recommendations?
I don't have any recommendations, but I just happened to notice in the details of your video section, it says 720 X 480, then is says 16X9 aspect ratio. I doubt that's your problem, but that seems wrong to me.
