Is Vegas Pro 9 Compatible With Windows 10?
I have recently installed Vegas Pro10 64 bit on a laptop, which was recently upgraded to Windows 10. I have tried this very briefly and it seems to work just fine. The system requirements for VP9 seem very much the same as for VP10 and therefore should run. Why not give it a try? If it doesn't work properly on your Windows 10 system it would seem sensible to simply uninstall and nothing lost. That is why I tried Wndows 10 first on the laptop, which I don't rely on so much. I was going to upgrade to Windows 10 on my desktop machine but, as I intend getting (buying or constructing) a new one sometime during this year, decided not to as I have some older software that won't work with 10. VP10 works just fine with Windows 7 on that machine. Brad

musicvid10, No - there is no MUST. If I chose to spend time looking up the history of every poster of posts I have read then I would waste a lot of my life for little to no purpose. Mp3 exports, which codec free for in Sony Vegas?
I have read the responses so far and can't help thinking maybe more is being read in to the original post than they intended. Of course you can extract the audio using VP (certainly 10 onwards) but the question refers to a WAV to MP3 conversion recorded separately. I have in the past recorded sound separately to a stand-alone digital audio recorder* and then done the conversion of the WAV file using either Audacity or, as a standby, Format Factory. Both are free, although using Audacity you will also need to download the Lame application/plug-in for the MP3 part - again, free. *The reason for not microphone connecting direct to cameras because of camera placement positions being too far from the sound source to be able to run cable(s) but microphones, small digital recorder and short run cables could be placed very close to the performance area. It worked splendidly but needed to convert the audio to MP3 for others afterwards hence use of programmes/applications mentioned. I do have SoundForge but already had those others and all kept very simple. BRC

Can I copy vegas onto new C-Drive?
I replaced my primary hard drive with a Samsung SSD back in January of this year. I used the cloning programme as provided by Samsung and all SCS and other programmes programmes transferred without having to reactivate. Sadly the Windows OS did require reactivating. There are other programmes for cloning to SSD and, I suspect, work just as well. I hope that helps the perspective on this posting. BRC

Small camcorder with prosumer video quality.
In view of the comments and questions here I decided to travel by bus into a town 6 miles away and used my PJ530e to capture just over 10 minutes of the journey to test the Balanced Optical Stabilising. Being a diesel, single deck bus there was enough normal vibration, however to ensure I maximised this I rested my arm holding the camera against the window - that definitely ramped up the shaking. The windows of the bus were covered in road dirt, as is normal this time of year, and gave a good reference point for comparing against the buildings along the road, on which the camera was focused. The result was much better than I anticipated with very smooth movement of the focused images whilst the dirt on the windows could be clearly seen 'bumping about' against that background. Just to add to this try-out the bus seemed to find most potholes in the road to give a nice solid thump to the chassis. That motion could be detected in the video footage but in a very smooth, minimal deviation, which I put down to my arm moving rather than any loss of stabilisation. I won't share the video as it must be one of the most boring bits of video I have ever shot (others may disagree). However, it does show that the BOS does work and, in my opinion, very well. BRC

Small camcorder with prosumer video quality.
I bought a Sony PJ530e about 10 weeks ago to compliment my HDRFX1 and FX7 - now getting old. This camera has the 'Balanced Optical Steadyshot' system and was therefore of interest when shooting where it was not possible to use a tripod. So far I am delighted with the camcorder, in particular the 'Steadyshot' feature. I shot a gig of around 70 minutes entirely handheld, sitting down and, due to a cold, some coughing. I wouldn't claim that it is perfect though the stability was far superior to anything I have used in such way before. I previously had a Sony TG3 which I used with a 'Mini MotionCam' stabiliser' and achieved very smooth flowing footage when moving, though tricky if outside in much more than a strong breeze. The result with the PJ530e are definitely smoother and much easier to handle than the TG3 set-up, particularly as being handheld it can be kept close to the body. The video and still images are very good and should satisfy the needs of all but the most discerning eye. There are a number of Sony cameras with this facility and worth having a look at, I suggest. OT: what's your take on the 3D craze?
I have been reading these posts over the past few days and felt it best not to join in the 'debate'. However some of the posts seem to deem the writers as experts on the subject and are quite curt in dismissing any opinion that does not concur with theirs. I shall be up front - I have had a Samsung 50'' plasma 3D tv for 3 years and 9 months, which involves active 3D glasses. I am a spectacle wearer, so does it present problems? Yes - i have to put the 3D glasses over my spectacles, adjust them for comfort and sitting right, which takes sometimes as long as 3 seconds. I am a few months away from my 66th birthday which means every second is precious, however I can easily spare those few seconds. Do I enjoy 3D films/programmes? Not of all of them as it depends on the quality of production and care that has gone into the presentation of the visuals and the content thereof. There are some really good 3D films - and I enjoyed 'Avatar' as the 3D was very well done, not simply 'in-your-face'. I know some of you have already disagreed, and some will still wish to disagree. You are entitled to your opinion as I am to mine and my opinion is still valid. I have watched a good deal more 3D productions, some of which have been excellent and some of which do a great disservice to entertainment. That is my opinion. I have a Blu-ray surround system, DTS-HD etc and enjoy the immersive sense of this with 3D. That is my opinion and I am happy with that. We all have our likes and dislikes and what works for one person does not necessarily work for another so when posting to this 'debate' please feel free to express your opinion but please don't be so dismissive of others. Who knows you might be right - or you might be completely wrong. By all means comment or express your view on the technicalities, though remember by the very nature of moving pictures and sound reproduction we are all being fooled one way or another in to believing what we see and hear is reality.

I am in the UK and somewhat envious of the price(s) being shown here, though confused that the headlines changed to 'Now $180 at newegg' I have checked the Amazon UK site but no joy, although the US site shows this product collection at $309. Who says the Brits get ripped off? BRC

3d waste of time....
I bought a 3D 50" set 3 years ago and I would rather have the option to watch 3D. There are some productions that are excellent in 3D and others that can be a off-putting. 'Avatar' was/is superb in its use of 3D (whether you like the storyline or not is another matter). 'The Hobbit' used 3D very well and ... 'Clash of the Titans' showed how not to use 3D. That one was very badly generated 3D from a 2D source and, at times, quite grotesque. My wife and I gave it up as a bad job, badly done. Sport can be excellent, depending on the camera positioning, or just distracting. I have just watched some of the tennis at Wimbledon and the 3D was excellent, though limited by camera viewpoints. A real shame as the BBC could have shown their 3D production strengths to the full. Documentaries that I have watched in 3D have been, mostly, stunning and far more satisfying than 2D images in close-ups of wildlife. I suspect too much content has been made or converted to 3D to try to cash-in on a new/updated technology. Like all audio or visual productions the care taken and expertise effort expended usually shows in the final product. Sadly cashing-in without those elements tends to give a bad impression of a technology puts out a high volume of disreputable content and leads to denigration of the technology across the board. I am aware that not everyone appreciates 3D, or can even see the effect, though do hope the technology keeps going with those who are prepared to put in the required effort to deliver quality productions. That is my two-pence worth, which is just my opinion and just as valid as the next or previous persons.

License transfer / migration
This subject comes up once or twice a year and perhaps it would help if SCS put a sticky on the forum(s) to clarify. Over the years I have transferred several of my SCS products after upgrading to a newer version. The process is relatively simple and permitted by SCS, almost encouraged. I would add that I have never sold any of these products but given them away, though selling is permitted. BRC

Interesting. A similar device (see link below) has been available here in the UK for at least 2 years at, strangely, about the equivalent price. I say strangely because normally whatever the price in US Dollars that will be the same figure in UK Pounds thus making an item around 50% dearer. OT: Editing room color
Hmmm! Supposedly scientific studies were conducted by the Rusian/Soviet military to find the best colour for a restful and relaxing environment, particularly fighter aircraft cockpits, and concluded the bluey-green shade they use as the best choice (see the extract below). Hospital interior walls in many countries also use similar colour(s) as being restful and calming - I suppose that also depends on why you are in the hospital. I am not sure it helps with creativity - perhaps a Russian military pilot could help with that issue. However, as between 4 to 10% of males, depending on ethnic grouping, suffer from some form of colour blindness that colour may be irrelevant. I would suggest a simple test of looking around to see what colours work with you specifically and experimenting, small scale, to find your best colours to meet the criteria you state. Many theories may be postulated, but remember that not everyone is the same. As some of us, at times, are flying by the seat of our pants when video editing perhaps the bluey-green will suit best. 'The color subconsciously relaxes and reduces stress in combat situations (in theory at least), where the pilot has to focus fully on his / her task. However, some MiG pilots say that green is also relaxing at night, since it does not stand out very much, yet you can see its outlines and instrument positions with ease (though that is again a question of preference). Also, in some MiG strands, the instruments do not have lights but are coated in a solution that shines nicely when illuminated with ultraviolet light, so they (the pilots) say that the combination of colors is not distracting or disturbing, while providing very good visibility.' N.B. this is a contribution with serious comment, though also tongue-in-cheek, so don't get too upset if you disagree with my comments.

VEGAS Sale/Transfer of Licence How-To?
Maybe it is just my idle curiosity, but, why would you not give the original discs to the transferee of the licence? Whether the new licence owner wishes to update from the newer downloads is up to them as they can just download from the SCS website. Another factor is that there may also be additional files on the original discs (NetFramework etc) that the tranferee may need which are not necessarily easy to download - or at least find on the internet.

Recording Audio
The build your own is a good idea, if confident enough in doing that. However if the option is to purchase a ready made device/option I would still suggest the ION U RECORD - I notice B&H sell this at $39.91 against $26.95 for the cable solution. The ION (or any like device) has a greater versatility in having phono inputs and usb output - of course it is not clear from the original posting as to what the outputs are available from the casette device. Recording Audio
If you are prepared to invest in a usb audio interface, such as the ION U RECORD that I use, you should easily overcome the problem you refer to in your posting. I am in the UK but this and similar devices are available worldwide. This cost me just under £30 and, as is normal in the UK, that is probably much higher a price than you will pay elsewhere, particularly in the USA. I have had my 'box' for a couple of years and used for sucessfuly transferring both tape cassettes and vynil recordings to my computer with no problem. It does require some initial set-up to find the best setting, though that is very easy. BRC

Reverse or backwards video
I have just tried a few clips varying from 30 seconds up to 2 minutes using 'right click - reverse' and each time play back was smooth, with no noticeable softening of the preview image. The clips were all HD down converterd to SD from camera in capturing. Each had quite a good amount of movement in the subject matter. Smart resample was on throughout these tests. The specs for my machine are probqably quite underwhelming compared to many I see here, and using XP still. I am using VP10e and have not seen a'bug' in the reverse, so far. I know this doesn't advance your problem but I thought it may help to see the problem may be elsewhere rather than specificially with VP.

If you feel adventurous enough have a look and could save you some money and you might make abetter job than shown. Adam L We all seem to be missing a vital part of this posting - how much are you prepared to spend, or, just as important, how much can you afford to spend for the sake of this project. Perhaps I am a little naive in reading into the query that you are not looking for a 'no expense spared' solution but want something that is affordable in the context of your bank account. So, given the increasingly expensive solution suggestions it would be helpful to rewind and give an estimate of the figure you can afford, or are prepared to pay. Woodenmike's comments are very welcome in the context of what is practical. There is also the issue of what limitations on operability are you prepared to accept to achieve the solution. If no compromise in operability is the answer then I am sure other contributors can come up with plenty of suggestions to help spend your cash quickly. I am still with the realtively low cost, simple, be prepared to compromise approach that your query suggests and the jib/crane approach seems to fit that bill with least impact on venue audience ..... and, of course, bank balance. Over to you.

Given the requirements you state have you considered a tripod mounted jib or crane. Have a look at the link: http://www.b-hague.co.uk/camera_jibs_cranes_booms.htm . Although it is not a cheap solution the other options do seem to be around the same level or possibly more expensive when adding in transport costs. Recently I was in a situation where I couldn't get much elevation for an overhead crowd shot using either tripod or handheld on my Sony FX1 so grabbed my standard monopod, always kept in the car, and put the camera on that. Okay, this was only for about 10 minutes at a time usage, but, with the foot end resting on my trousers belt, and fully extended I achieved a reasonable stability. I wouldn't recommend for 4 hours shooting though.
