Continual Crashes with 'StackHash' Error
It is the GoPro footage, mixed with the other camera footage that is causing the trouble. I have been able to successfully render the GoPro and other camera footage, separately as MFX renders and then pull them in as 2 different video tracks. It's a pain, but at least it works this way. Oddly, the GoPro footage still gave me grief even after I transcoded it to another format. At any rate, this seems to be the only workaround.

Thanks for the reply. I did try rendering with other codecs, as well as Sony MXF and it seems that every time it hangs, it does so on the GoPro footage. I have the different camera angles cutting in and out so it seems the culprit is the GoPro footage. I've tried using Catalyst to re-encode that footage to no avail. I've updated all my drivers too. This is insane. I've been working all day trying to render this video for a NAMM recap on Monday.

New Quadro M5000 Very Little Performance Increase
Yes, I did have GPU acceleration selected for the Quadro so I took your advice and uninstalled Vegas and reinstalled it. Lo and behold my FPS hovered around 15.0 afterward with the GPU processor measuring a 70% use in NVIDIA's control panel view. Out of curiosity, I rendered with the Sony AVC codec again and got the same time results using the GPU, so that didn't change. Can you tell me your system specs, Jamon since they aren't in your user profile? Thank you so much for your help.

Replacing GeForce GTX 550 Ti v355.82?
Hey Kit, I'm currently running the same processor but with 8 GB of RAM. It's STILL a good system, albeit I'm having a lot of trouble with a brand spankin' new NVIDIA Quadro M5000 so I would recommend you steer clear of NVIDIA for Vegas (pretty much most people here will tell you that). Sony doesn't support the newer cards very well, apparently. Had I known that, I would have gotten the AMD R9 Fury X like everyone suggests. Now to your audio problems. It's Vegas, make no mistake. I don't know what audio interface you've got but I'm using a MOTU Ultralite MKIII and if I do more than stereo tracking I get a lot of dropouts/glitchy audio. Also, adding more than a couple of VST plugins from 3rd parties like WAVES when I'm just processing stereo audio will bring it to its knees. I don't have any of these kinds of issues with Ableton. I don't know if you will ever find good surround sound performance with Vegas, I'm sorry to say. With your bluescreen issues do you have an SSD that you are using for your boot drive? Using one for rendering or recording real-time to? Once SSD's reach a certain capacity they will completely barf and blue screen, particularly if you are using Windows Swap Drive as that can fill it up quickly (and it's bad to keep writing to an SSD unless you have one of the higher end ones that are designed for it). 8 GB of RAM is pushing it. If you do have your Swap Drive enabled on your C drive and you are using an SSD, move it to another drive that has more space and make sure you keep plenty of room free on that C drive.

New Quadro M5000 Very Little Performance Increase
I just ran a benchmark test on my CPU and it came back as overclocked to 4.1 GHz. I just wanted to be sure. I did as you suggested and added Sony's Simple 4 Point preset from the Starburst plugin to the 8th track and got a miserable 0.7 FPS. Yes, you read that correctly. This is supposed to be a GPU accelerated plug-in and looking at the GPU meter in NVIDIA's control panel, I'm hitting 30 percent. This is just crazy. I'm going to download Adobe Premier and see if that behaves better.

New Quadro M5000 Very Little Performance Increase
Jamon, So after downloading the video benchmark test link you posted and giving it a try, here's what the results were: First, my system. Intel Core i7-3770K 3.5 GHz Windows 7 Professional (64bit) 16 GB RAM Upgraded to NVIDIA Quadro M5000 from GForce GTX 670 Driver version 354.56 Playback framerate was 29.9 pretty steadily in high quality preview window, with occasional stutters in playback during transitions but no significant drop in framerate. Adding any one plugin from the BCC suite to the timeline practically brought the framerate to its knees, and suddenly I was at 5-10 fps. I removed that and playback got smooth again. When rendering with "HD Internet" settings I got the following times: - Main Concept MP4 CPU, CUDA, and OpenCL renders all took 2:35 to complete - Sony AVC CPU and GPU renders took 1:44 to complete Interestingly it didn't seem to matter what I used to process the video (CPU, CUDA, or OpenCL) as all times were pretty much the same.

New Quadro M5000 Very Little Performance Increase
Well this is interesting... I'm seeing that both AVID and Adobe support the new M6000, M5000, and M4000 and recommend it for video editing. Unfortunately I don't have either to compare. Sony is just behind the curve on this. Apparently the performance has more to do with how the application is handling the features of the GPU and not the other way around. Sending the GPU back to New Egg is going to cost me $300 due to it being open box! So, that's out of the question. Wait for Sony to support it?

New Quadro M5000 Very Little Performance Increase
To be very clear here, Vegas is smoothly playing through video just fine with the Quadro (at highest quality settings) UNTIL I start adding effects plug-ins. I have to then start previewing the video in lower quality or it just gets choppy. Is there just no way, regardless of how much you spend on a GPU, to have effects play back smoothly? Do the guys who are doing this professionally have arrays of GPU's to do this kind of work? I'm guessing that whether it's a Quadro or a Fury, I'm going to get similar results with regards to playback and plug-in effects.

OK, I just found out after doing a little research that the M5000 needs an antiquated driver from NVIDIA to use GPU Acceleration for Sony's AVC codec... one that precedes the existence of the card itself. Good hell. Is it best to transcode all video to AVI before editing in Vegas? Will I see a performance jump by doing this? It says on the Vegas Pro 13 marketing info that my camera's codec is natively supported via their "Multi-format native editing" paragraph. Yet it seems it's exactly the MOV files from my camera that are slowing things down.

Thank you for the quick responses. I just downloaded Catalyst Production Suite so I'm going to try transcoding all my video to see if that helps. Also, I'm a little confused by the claims that NVIDIA does not support OpenCL because their site states otherwise: https://developer.nvidia.com/opencl In fact, according to NVIDIA they were the first ones to demonstrate it: http://www.nvidia.com/object/cuda_opencl_1.html The problems I'm experiencing could simply be related to working with the files directly pulled from my Canon 70D instead of transcoding them first. I do like the idea of saving $1,000 bucks on an AMD, of course if it will actually do the work needed. I'm going to try a few things and then report back. If I can't get the Quadro to work as expected, I'm sending her back.

Jonny, you're referring to the older gen Quadro. You'll notice I'm using the M5000 which is a lot faster than the GTX 670 in every respect.

So before I return the Quadro and re-install my GTX 670, how does anyone edit video in Vegas using effects like BCC, and be able to keep smooth video playback so you can actually see what's happening on the timeline? Everything is so choppy that it's impossible to see places to cut. Do you have to pre-render everything? I can't imagine all other video editing software gets this bogged down using a high end GPU. I am starting to wonder if Vegas just isn't utilizing the Quadro properly. What is SCS? Also, could it be that I need to transcode my video if I'm editing MP4 files from my Canon 70D?

startup error message in V13
I am getting this error as well, constantly. It's really driving me nuts because it occurs whenever I leave Vegas and come back (for example, open a browser window to download video files from WeTransfer). It also occurs when I open a new project in Vegas after having looked at another. The only remedy it seems is to shut down Vegas and restart. Very annoying.

Audio glitches after upgrading to Vegas 13 64 Bit
UPDATE: My trouble seems to be related to screen redraw issues and using 64 or 32 bit VST plugins and the ASIO drivers. For example, if I move screens within Vegas such as the plug-in window the audio will glitch. Moving it rapidly around the screen causes the audio to completely garble up to the point where it sounds like just bits and noise. All 8 cores of my CPU are going up and down between 20 - 89% I'm going to take screen capture video and record the audio on an external digital recorder so as to show this in action.

Audio glitches after upgrading to Vegas 13 64 Bit
I've been using Vegas 64 bit since 11 and didn't have any trouble then. I skipped 12 so I have no reference there. But 13 is definitely messed up. All I am doing is simply narrating a video, so I have maybe 2 audio tracks is all. One is the music, and there are no plugins on that. The other is my narration, and that's where I'm trying to process the audio along with at the Master output where I need a limiter. Can't do it. I have to render all my narration as a wav file and then process it in Sound Forge before I bring it back in. That's the only workaround I have. I can't believe more people aren't talking about this.

Audio glitches after upgrading to Vegas 13 64 Bit
UPDATE: All VST plugins when using my MOTU ASIO drivers will glitch out the audio playback/recording. It doesn't matter how much I adjust the latency settings either. I went all the way up to the highest setting and still had issues. While WAVES plug-ins cause the most trouble, other lower CPU intensive plug-ins will begin to create troubles with just 2 chained. In effect making recording audio or playback completely unusable.

Same here guys. I never had a problem with Vegas 11. I've got a MOTU Ultralite MK3 and a pretty speedy computer. I seem to have the biggest trouble with Waves plugins, but admittedly I haven't tried many others. I use RVox for my voiceover, and that one VST plugin alone brought all playback to its knees. Recording was interesting too. I got BT-style stutter edits. Really frustrating! Michael

NVIDIA GTX 680 Lack of CUDA support and Crashing
I am having this same issue but it is not isolated to the Main Concept Codec. The Sony AVC Codec won't render with the GPU either. I have the i7 3770 Ivy Bridge Intel processor along with the GTX-670 and can only use the CPU to render. Seems like a common denominator is Ivy Bridge and the v.6 GPU.

Sony AVC Codec Missing
John, you are a rockstah! Installing the OpenGL version of that package from Intel fixed my problem. I'm scratching my head as to why Sony hasn't figured this out. Hopefully they are reading this. The "trick" I posted earlier only worked a couple of times. I'm at a loss as to why it worked, and why it stopped working... but whatever, your fix is the one! Best, M

Sony AVC Codec Missing
I fixed it! What I had to do was: 1. Locate the following folder: /Program Files/Sony/Vegas Pro 11.0/FileIO Plug-Ins/mp4plug3 2. Move mp4plug3 (Sony's AVC Codec) to a different location, temporarily 3. Start Vegas Pro 11 and then quit out of it 4. Move mp4plug3 folder back 5. Restart Vegas Pro 11 which then re-scans the folder and miraculously adds it. Weird. Well, now if anyone else has this problem they can try this. ;) Best, M

Sony AVC Codec Missing
I did a "Check for updates" from within NewBlue Pro Titler and it prompted me to download the version I just installed. Prior to the update I had 120402 installed and was still not seeing the Sony AVC Codec. So I don't know what is going on. I will try uninstalling/reinstalling again now that I no longer have Vegas Pro 10 installed and see if that solves the issue. I am just worried that doing this nearly 3 times in a row is going to throw up red flags at Sony.

For Vimeo, read their compression guidelines: https://vimeo.com/help/compression For YouTube, I just use the MainConcept preset for 1080p internet video streaming. YouTube seems to muck with your final file more than Vimeo does (in terms of quality) after doing a comparison.
