Hey JR - this is great. Would it be possible/easy to add different render templates? Eg, currently it won't let me render at 24 bit, as most of my projects are. Thanks Ben

so how is it working w/UAD now?
That's mad. Echo Mia Midi here, running ASIO at 512 samples at the moment... though any of the buffer sizes seem to work fine. The UAD itself is just on the default settings. Still get the old munching problem though :-|

And btw, for those of view who don't know about this, do check out REAPER - http://www.cockos.com/reaper/ Many of us Vegas Audio guys have been busy on the forum there... this is quite an app in the making, and it's happening damn quickly! :) Request your favourite Vegas feature before it's too late... Yup - as long as you don't mix and match the UAD DX & VST plugs in the same session, seems fine. Don't know when it starting working again; maybe on version b. I'm still damn annoyed UA have dumped DX support though - backwards compatiblity goes out the window. Grrr. Until they release some plugs I actually want to buy, I'm sticking with 3.9 here. Ben

Hmmm, I don't find this to be the case with 6c. The UAD DX plugs render fine, as do the VST ones. The key is not to mix and match the VST with the DX ones, though using the UAD VSTs with other brand DX plugs seems fine. Make sense?

I just posted this on the Crossfade forum when someone said a very similar thing about the Sony UIs: - Set Windows to the 'Classic' UI look - Under Windows Appearence prefs, select 3D objects and choose a darker grey - Under Vegas prefs, Display, turn down all the colour saturation quite a bit. >> The result? Looks pretty pro [and of course, we should be careful about throwing around the word 'GUI'. The Sony GUIs are fantastic - the most elegant things out there. What we're referring to here is more the skin of the UI, ie how they look. Cos for functionality nothing else beats 'em!] Ben

Absolutely there's nothing to it - we just need Sony to do it! You're right, very easy with most other apps. But Sony's "bits" seem to be all over the place, mainly in the registry. They need to sort this out; professionals expect to be able to migrate settings. Makes setting up Vegas in a work places, for example, across multiple machines, very difficult indeed. Ben

Just come across this myself. Preset Manager is all well and good for, er, FX presets! But Vegas <desperately> needs a way to export and import ALL it's settings when upgrading, moving to another machine, etc. By all settings I mean - toolbars, preferences, installed scripts, keyboard shortcuts, stored views, presets. The same problem of not being able to transfer these settings exists with Sound Forge and ACID and Sony should probably create a utility to work for all three. Microsoft have something very similar for their Office suite. In the many years I've owned Sony products, I've spent countless frustrating hours transferring my settings from one installation to another! These are supposedly professional apps, and so really do need a suitable solution for this. Ben

I just don't understand buses.
Of course what we still need Peter... is the ability to send to the FX busses from the busses. If, for example, you've grouped a bunch of vocal tracks to a bus, and now want to send that to an existing reverb FX bus you have set up. This send would obviously be automatable, like any other track. We're all hoping this, at least, will make Vegas 7... Thanks Ben

TC Powercore Firewire
Cheers Ed, but... There's nothing on really on the Powercore forum regarding Vegas, nor the TC site. How well Nuendo, etc, works with it doesn't really concern me! I have a UAD already, so that's not really the issue. Do you have a Powercore? How well does it play with Vegas? Thanks Ben

Cheers drbam. I did do that though and didn't get that much significant info back, but it does seem to play fine with ACID - again, though, there's not much detail. No mention of any CPU mentioning or similar, which is good news, but it would be good to definitely hear some fresh opinions. Also, people have certainly experienced far less UAD problems with ACID than Vegas, so if possible I'd like to hear actual experiences of people using the Powercore with Vegas. Although they look very similar, I really think ACID and Vegas' audio engines are quite different under the hood. Ben

What's Pro Tools? (Sorry, couldn't resist) In terms of the audio itself, Vegas will accept PT's aiffs or wavs... the only problem being that Pro Tools uses an archaic split-stereo/dual mono format for stereo files, so you'll probably have to manually group these in Vegas, which could be a tad fiddly. Or, you could pre-prep in Sound Forge, which has an option in the Open dialog to 'Merge L/R to stereo'. You could do that (would be time consuming but maybe it's script-able?) and then import those files to Vegas. If you want the session itself, Vegas 6 now accepts AAF files (though not OMF). This is something I haven't tried but by all accounts it's a little flaky to say the least; I'll let someone who knows more chime in. HTH Ben

V6c Major audio recording issue!!
Firstly, what audio driver model are you using? If you're not using ASIO, try that. Secondly, go to the audio forum here. It's unfortunately quiet these days so if you have no luck try www.crossfade-forums.net, which is where many of the former audio forum guys hang out. We can then try going through some possibilities and trouble-shoot. Many of us do multitrack audio on Vegas (that's all we do with it!) with no sync issues. HTH, Ben

Moving between db levels
Sure. The way you're doing it is relatively clunky; the best way is to use volume envelopes. Hit V on a track to bring these up. If you're using Vegas 5 onwards this gets even better as you can record and playback fader automation, tied to these volume envelopes. I'd recommend you look these things up in Help for full details, but hopefully that gets you started. Ben

Yes, I've been wondering exactly the same thing mangoo! I'll tell you why though - it's because Sony has badly and only half-implented the VST effect specification. Vegas doesn't report "now time" or tempo to the plugs - this also means that any VSTs which sync to tempo (and most do now, with some not offering you the option to set manually) will not work properly in Vegas. Like you, I was very disappointed not to be able to use 'Glitch' in Vegas. I've been meaning to post about this for a while because it's been winding me up for quite some time. Grrrr. I mean come on Sony, the one audio 'feature' (really a catch-up) you throw into Vegas 6 is damn half-baked! Please, plase sort this out and give us full VST effect implentenation in Vegas. In fact something related that recently frustrated me is that Sony made many of it's DirectX 'XFX' plugs (the one's that ship with ACID, SF and Vegas) tempo sync-able. It'd be nice to be able to use this feature, but again Vegas isn't sending tempo information to Direct X plugs either. You'll notice this in DX plugs like PSP Nitro where you have to set the tempo manually. Now Sony's excuse for all of this is probably that Vegas isn't a sequencer. This is ridiculous. I don't care what they want to call Vegas - Vegas <<does>> have a set-able tempo! It has a metronome. Etc. Being able to automatically sync plugins to the tempo is something one would expect from a multitrack/DAW/NLE/audio sequencer/whatever. Especially when it's an inherent part of the VST specification that Sony claim to have implented. Even the cheapest and freebie mini hosts and sequencers manage to fully implement VST correctly. Ben

Default pan settings
Sure. Right-click on the track header of a track which contains the properties you're happy with, and select Set Default Track Properties. From here you can set the pan default for all tracks, amongst other things. Ben

Absolutely Alex - I completely concur. Spot, sorry to say you're way off the mark here. Whether you liked the guy or got with him or not is frankly neither here nor there, and irrelavant. The fact is, he contributed HEAPS to the audio forum and was totally a huge advocate of the software. Not just here, on many other audio forums all over the net. As Alex says, and as you very well know, many of us are <rightly> angry and disappointed at the direction the software appears to be going in. Of course also bear in mind we were assured time and time again by Sony Media Software employee, on these forums, that the audio side was not being ignored. Simply adding VST support, many years after the techonology has been available, is little more than an insult to Vegas' loyal audio users. And there's a myriad of other things we've also got very good reason to be pissed off about; bugs, broken mixer routing, essential DAW features missing, etc. I think you get my drift. Ben
