ASIO driver bad behaviour
Just to add grist to the mill, I always found Vegas ASIO works extremely well with SSL/Soundscape ASIO Drivers, not so well with RME ASIO Drivers .... go figure...

Once you have inserted a Volume Envelope I find the letter V on the keyboard toggles it into view or not

Audio fading error (small)
Yes this appears to be a bug; same happens here - the last one and a half frames of audio are truncated = suddenly cut off. This happens without a fade present.

I might well ask why all Cinemaphotographers and Editors don't make all people in the picture appear in the same place? I can't stand seeing more than one person on the screen at the same time.

In your picture of Preferences you show Playback devices; what selections are available for Recording Device ( further down the window) once you change to different device types at the top?

How can I render video in Vegas Pro 18 with NO audio track, just video
Yes! Choose "Render As..." In the Render As window you choose your target video format and Template - there's a button "Customize Template" - click on that and then select the Audio Tab - deselect the "Include Audio" tickbox. Viola! No audio will be included in the rendered file.

is it possible to record audio at a slower speed than normal??
Not only would your Narrator would have to speak at half speed, but also pitch their voice down one octave. The idea seems straight forward, but is in practice ludicrous.

Rendering surround audio for DVD and cinema - help required
Musicvid kindly posted this years ago, for use with the Vegas AC-3 PRO encoder: my experience is his advice works very well. I've run some exhaustive tests with calibration test tones and done extensive reading of the Dolby metadata specs, and in reference to your question about the most accurate reproduction with the AC-3 Pro Encoder, I am prepared to make the following recommendations with notes: If you're doing AC-3 Stereo, you can ignore everything I say about the Phase Shift option, it's greyed out of course. Dialog Norm = -31 (this sets it at unity gain)RF and Line Mode DRC = OFF (WYHIWYG)DC High Pass Filter = ON (this operates at <=3Hz and takes DC bias out of the mix)Bandwidth High Pass Filter = ON (this takes aliasing noise at >20kHz out of the encode, but it also lowered the final volume by -0.1dB in my tests)90 Deg Phase Shift = ON (makes it easier for Pro Logic decoding on older equipment, Dolby says it is inaudible in 5.1 except in "very rare" cases) Everything else can be left just as it is in the 5.1 DVD template; the only difference I can determine compared to the Studio encoder is the 90 Deg Phase Shift, but turning it off replicates the downmix pan bug I reported in the Audio forum. Interesting, huh?

Gross overload distortion? Leave the Master Faders @ 0.0; make sure the Master Meters never read overload (greater than 0.0) by reducing the levels of your Tracks.

Best Audio Format for Rendering Sound Clips?
MP3 is a data-compressed format where somewhere up to 90% of the original has already been discarded; converting to some other format won't achieve any quality improvement. BTW 'acquiring' these sounds the way you admit very likely breaches someone's copyright; just sayin'.

16 and 24 Bit-depth
As PeterVred found out, recording 16bit generated sound (i.e. 16 bit A/D converters etc.) as 24bit has no immediate noticeable sound difference (the additional 8 bits are "empty" so contribute nothing). However, if you can maintain 24bit after recording through the post-production chain, there are some sonic advantages esp. where processing and mixing are concerned, where all calculations are done at a higher resolution. Generally most video uses 24bit these days. If the final delivery is 16bit, the 24bit should be correctly dithered to 16bit, but only at the final stage.

Rendering to MP3 in Mono higher than 128K
"Awave Audio" (http://www.fmjsoft.com/awaveaudio.html#main) will satisfy your requirement up to 320kbit/s. Try for free. If happy, buy the full version for €16 / $20. DO NOT RE-ENCODE MP3; just export your originals as WAV then encode once to desired compressed format.

Albert, has audio stopped functioning altogether i.e. no audio from any application, or is it just that there's no audio when you use VP15? If it is just VP15, have you attended to the audio preferences e.g. set the required soundcard output in the Preferences/Settings Audio Tab menu?

Sonic Foundry Serial Number for Video Capture
Serial Number is actually a purchased unique-to-each-user Password to unlock the software. There also may be some requirement for back-to-base internet registration as well, which may or may not work anymore.... Perhaps someone who doesn't use theirs anymore will be happy to give or sell one to you. (I jumped into Vegas at V7.0 so can't help)

Pitch Adjustment
Is there a way to effectively raise the pitch slightly on a audio track preserving the time without losing quality? On the Timeline, click on the "Event FX.." icon (bottom right corner of Audio Event you want to change) and select 'elastique Timestretch' from the menu, then OK. You will get a plugin popup - next to the graph be sure settings for "Mode" = Pro & 'synchronize pitch' is not checked, then change the pitch paddles as desired .... The above is for an Event on the timeline. You can also do the same at Track level by clicking the same icon in your Track header or mixer channel ("Edit Insert FX chain..."). That will obviously treat all Events on the Track Elastique's pitch change is about as good as it gets unless you want to spend a fortune on specialist software.

Regulate sound by master track or bus track?
If, as you say, "the sound level jumps in both (bus A and master) into the red zone" they are overloading, therefore you must adjust the original channels; In a digital mixer, once the signal is overloaded, turning it down afterwards (at Bus or Master) does not prevent the distortion.

Help with Syncing to Beat
I don' know anything about Markers in the Trimmer, but maybe this helps you see the beats? With the normal timeline in focus, Shift + Up Arrow increases the height of the audio waveform, and conversely Shift + Down Arrow decreases the height. Also Mousewheel will increase or decrease horizontal Zoom.

Video Preview not in 5.1
Yes I did know that thanks David; by using switches the control ceases to be a 'panner' doesn't it? However if you want a sound to positionally follow the action on the screen you can't be mucking about with switches... I recorded & mixed a 5.1 demonstration film for Dolby Labs a few years ago; it featured 6 instruments, one in each speaker, and the pictures of the musicians dramatically rotated 360deg around the listener at one point, so the requirement was that the sound followed; that would have been impossible with switches in the panning :-)

Video Preview not in 5.1
David, I meant to say the Surround Panners, except the Film setting, do not work very well. For example, take a single mono audio track and the surround panner: 'Add Channels' - you cannot pan just to Centre; front L and R outputs are also included at same level! 'Balance (x dB)' - pan just to Centre; front L and R outputs are also included to some degree depending on 'x', also pan full front L or R always includes Centre output at same level. 'Constant Power' - you cannot pan to front L or R speakers at all! 'Film' - works very well in all regards.
